O/T Shipping To Canada

I am looking for a little help. Despite the fact my auctions state I only ship to the United States a buyer from Canada just won one of my auctions. I will gladly send it to him but I was always under the impression that it is more difficult to ship items to Canada. IE can't print postage from Paypal, extra money, customs forms ETC. Is this the case? If so what should I charge? US shipping for the lot 9 DVD's was $5. Thanks in advance!

I ship from Minnesota, and for us, the shipping rates to Canada aren't too much higher unless the package weighs over 4 pounds, then it climbs up to around $23.00 minimum rates.
The customs form is not that big of a deal, you only need to write your address and their address on it and declare a value, date it and sign it. Most of my Canadian ebay users ask first before bidding and they know that the shipping will be more than quoted in the auction. I ship a lot of books, and there is no media mail (formerly book rate) for packages going outside the US. Your 9 DVD lot with a box is going to come pretty close to that 4# and over cutoff- you will probably need to take it to the PO and get quotes.

I personally don't mind at all when foreign bidders ask first and then bid and win, but it does bug me somewhat when they don't ask and win when the auctions specifically say US only.

I stopped shipping to folks I don't know in Canada, because
there were too many complaints about them having to pay
    customs duties.

Due to longer delivery times, shipping to Canada usually damages
    a seller's DSRs.

Foreign buyers can be blocked in seller preferences.

  • Never, under any circumstances, ship to Quebec.
  • Would have to agree with the previous two posters. While shipping to Canada does not cost more, customs issues always cause huge problems.

Recently shipped an item to Canada via Global Priority. I was able to print the postage and the label through PayPal including the Customs Declarations. I was told to use regular USPS Priority Mail packaging.

The item arrived safely in about 8 days...

As storm pointed out you can block out non-US bidders when you create the listings. If you're selling DVD's that would be a good idea because they won't work everywhere and you might have issues shipping them to certain places.
