Why Is Ankiel Not A Bigger Story?

frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,046 ✭✭✭✭✭
I get to watch the Cardinals every night. I was wondering why Rick Ankiel is not a bigger story. He just hit his 20th HR of the year. This guy used to be a pitcher, for goodness sake. I'm just wondering why nobody is talking about it.

(I know, I am expecting the "HGH" comments).

Another thing is Hamilton was on the ropes with his addiction and was able to ( so far ) turn his life completely around. There was a decent article on him in SI a few weeks ago, this kid is under such a strict travelling and off duty regime that he has a guy with him pretty much during all his free time, he doesnt go to bars and wont touch a drink with his dinner. The Rangers are keeping a microscope watch on him and it appears he is doing everything right at this point and it shows with the season he is having. This kid pulled himself out of the gutter and it not only saved his career but most likely his life.

HGH has a lot to do with it, but I also think there's a perception that it's all just a fluke. I kinda thought so myself last year, but I now think Ankiel is a legitimately solid contributor. And the thing is, he's still rather unpolished.

Nobody wants to give him attention because if they do, he'll end up hitting .100 and go bizerk on some fans heckling him in the outfield.

Let me add that I do think it is a remarkable story, Mitchell Report or not.

Whatever happened to Todd Stoddlemeyer? Maybe he should become a power hitter too!

Forget about HGH boy, what about my boy Ryan Ludwick? This guy was a career back-up and now he's a lumberjack! Got him in my fantasy keeper league this year for a buck (Omar Visquel for example sold for $4)!

Ryan Ludwick has always been a good prospect. He just could never get healthy. He had broken wrists among many other injuries. Now that he is finally healthy, we see what he is capable of.

Obviously you were kidding. Ankiel is not even as good of a hitter as Ruth was a pitcher. And we know how the Ruth as a hitter vs. Ankiel as a pitcher comparison would shake out.
