Huh? It's clearly Arod and Pujols in their respective leagues. Maybe Holliday enters the discussion in the NL. Hamilton and Utley are having great years, but they have a LONG ways to go before being considered the best players in the AL and NL. And how is Utley a dirty player? This isn't football, basketball, soccer, hockey, etc.

The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

That's nuts. I could see it if they were voting on "most talented" or having the best year, but best? Hamilton isn't even in the conversation IMO. Not yet, anyway.

I would think the players that voted were voting as in best this year.

    Good for you.
  • Ya I'm pretty sure it is THIS year's best players and Hamilton is a good choice for the AL. Why not Chipper Jones for the NL?

I don't understand how they could survey 400 plus guys and the top guys get something like 30 plus votes? Do they mean percentage of the vote? Is everybody voting for themselves?
  • Scout's take on Hamilton: "Right now, Hamilton is the best player in the league.

    SURVEY=SCOUTS+RIGHT NOW

My cousin plays for the Rangers and he said right before they did this poll, Josh Hamilton stood up and said "If you don't all vote for me I am going to Darryl Strawberry's All-Star Party." So he got all those votes.

not this year. Pujols is not even the best First Baseman. Lance Berkman clearly is.

I'll take Pujols over Fat Elvis anyday. Better defensive player, and if Pujols had the lineup and small ball park that Lance Berkman has in Houston, he would easily trump him in offensive stats this season. Also, Pujols has missed more than 2 weeks due to the DL.

Let's not forget, Berkman was the guy who was hitting over .380, and slugging over .780, and now Pujols has caught him in batting average and almost in slug %. What makes Pujols so amazing is that he is consistant, while others peak and fall off. Heck, look at Chipper Jones, now batting .375, after being in the .420 range for quite some time. I will wager when it's all said and done, he finishes below Pujols in the batting race.

And my pick for NL would easily be Pujols, and in the AL, I'd take Alex Rodriguez.

just a hunch. Could be wrong. One thing is for sure, as a Cardinal fan you are not being very objective. Pujols has been the best player in the league besides Barry Bonds for years, he could be clean and if he is more power to him. The thing is he is not the best player in the league so far this year that is clearly Chase Utley

  • Rex, I guess you don't know much about Albert Pujols the person. Please check out his life story, and your hunch will quickly fall apart. One of the good guys, if baseball has ever had any.

I know some can/will try to mock him for his faith(there are always those clowns in life), but I can say from first hand experience of volunteer work for The Pujols Family Foundation, he is a genuine person. Not a fake like alot of athletes who just start a charity, and pose for a picture, to make themselves look good.

I will never mock anyone for their faith. The same thing can be said for Berkman about his faith and his work in the community, even though he does not have the history of Pujols. I made a brash statement about Pujols, and I have been wrong a time or two in my life.

You expected him to go 2-5 EVERY DAY just to keep pace? The guys basically my idol and I never thought for one second that he had a shot at hitting .400.

But still, since when is .375 bad?

EDIT: Anyone else ever heard Berkman talk about other religions? Talks about how Jesus Christ is IT and associates other religions with abuse and all sorts of horrible things!
