Clemens 1984 fleer

Could anybody quote the recent sales of the 1984 Fleer Update Clemens in a PSA 9 for me. I was hoping to purchase one as the prices, from what I understand, have dropped drastically. However, I don't want to buy if they are continuing to fall....hoping it is leveling out.

Thanks!!!

  • The centering is all over the place on the four PSA 9's on ebay right now. None are perfectly centered.
  • Instead of buying a card that is decreasing in value, how about you buy my wife's Beanie Baby collection? I hear these things are going up in value. Get 'em while they're hot.

Ah, the fate of the whole '84 Fleer Update set. What a shame! :-)

I wonder how bad his cards will continue to sink?

The 1984 Fleer Update is a must have for any person that was a fan in the 1980's. This set basically had rookie cards of all of top pitchers from that period - Clemens, Gooden, Saberhagen, Langston, Jimmy Key, and John Franco. You also have several HOF'ers in different uniforms such as Pete Rose as an Expo, Seaver as a White Sox, or Joe Morgan as an Athletic. Last, but not least, the only 1984 Puckett RC.

I plan to buy this set in the near future. I already have a Puckett in a PSA 10. I was thinking about a Clemens, but I will wait to see if he gets in more legal trouble.

  • Thanks for all of the help guys. I was hoping it would level off but it is apparently not!

Boy, I was a devoted collector during the 80's and that set was completely unreachable for a 12 year old's cash flow. Holds a special place for me and I eventually want to acquire it but it sounds like the best decision is to wait.

    Yikes

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Yikes on the 80's collector because I essentially wasted my money......or.....yikes on the prices of the clemens? Both can fall into that category of yikes! image

Speaking of the '84 Fleer Clemens, what does a BGS 9.5 sell for these days? Any help would be appreciated.

I can do the 10 day ebay search on them, I'm looking for results
over the past 3 month's if possible. I don't subscribe to vcp either.

    Thanks,
    Rich

When I was tracking it about a month ago, it fell into the mid-$300 range. It could be closer to $300 by now. I doubt it will get much lower than that unless Clemens shows up on TV in a white Bronco on the 405 with Al Cowlings driving.

DES, If you enjoy/enjoyed your 80s cards, then you did not waste your money. While the 84 Clemens is not a smart "investment", it is still a card you have wanted. Pick it up while the prices are getting affordable.

Wow. The '84 Fleer update is like the 'Different Strokes' of baseball cards. All the kids in the show rocket to fame and glory, but crash and burn in the end.

Where does Conrad Bain fit into all of this??

Clemens is looking more like Todd Bridges. He isn't quite at Dana Plato yet.

Puckett is the Gary Coleman of 1980's baseball cards.

A young Dwight Gooden kind of looks like Dudley.

I just dug up this thread (or thought I dug it up) to say the same thing. The PSA 10 also seems to have levelled of recently. It reached a low of around $500 back in April and now seems to have found a plateau at $600-$700, which is still considerably lower than the mid $1000 range it sold at 1 1/2 years ago.
