Anyone familiar with repunched digit on Maundy coins?

Take a look at the '8' in the date. Is it normal to see these repunched/doubled? This is the first one I've seen.

I've never seen this on a Maundy coin, but the way that the eight is doubled strikes me as being familiar for some reason...I've seen it before.

I have not seen it on Maundy coinage, however, repunched dates are seen on Victorian coinage.
