My Saberhagen PSA Collection (Large Scans)

Finished scanning the Saberhagen graded collection this week, rescaned a few. Not really interested in post-KC cards, so I am only missing a few cards. I try to ignore the fact that for the cost of a PSA 10, I could pretty much buy all the Saberhagen cards.

He's from the San Fernando Valley area and I was a little too young to see him play in HS. Had a great career and
was one of my favorites from the 1980s.
I like to get a PSA 10 84 Fleer Update for my collection.
Saberhagen was a local star in the 80s. He carried the Royals through the '85 playoff and then won two games in the World Series including an 11-0 shutout in game 7.
I remember one local car commercial where they had Saberhagen doing the "Saberhagen Shuttle" al la Chicago Bears' Super Bowl shuffle.
I can also remember the local dealers wanting $.50-$1.00 for Saberhagen cards most would consider commons now. Gotta luv the 80s.
I would like to get a 1984 Fleer Update PSA 10 sometime as well GoDodgersFan. There is one on eBay for $140 and there is a 1984 Topps Update PSA 10 on NAXCOM for $150....but both are about 3x what I would pay.

Saberhagen is also probably better than some current Hall of Fame members.

<< <i>Thanks for the info, is it worthless? Ronnie >>
Yes, it is. However if you have the whole box bottom it is likely worth $1.00....as I think that is the box bottom with Pete Rose.

Sabes' career was always a little strange in that he would do well in odd years (i.e. 1985, 1987, 1989) but would have a jinx during the even years.

A couple from Seth, which a board member kindly pointed out he had. (Well, the Tiffany, Seth talking me into the Disc as well).

Also, the disc photo looks like he has three chins. Three chin Saberhagen....it almost has a ring.

I have several larger player collections, but they are football and mostly 90s era cards, and there is just something more pure about baseball in the 80s. (I guess I grew up in the 80s...and partied most of the 90s, but we will ignore that.)

<< <i>Nice collection! Did you send any of these in yourself or have you been patiently watching ebay for them to pop up? >>
Thanks.
I have been patiently waiting for them to pop on eBay (and at times, like the 85 Donruss, for a few of them to hit to eBay so it was affordable), although list members have helped with a couple.
Only really interested in Royals Saberhagen cards so there are not that many left for me to get.

I gotta ask though... what's up with his Auto? That's gotta be one of the hardest to read Auto's EVER! WOW!
The discs are sweet... I have a few Cadaco disks of Sabo I need to submit, just haven't yet. Not looking forward to paying the fees for the over-sized cards.
ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!
<< <i>Great stuff Mark! There has always been something about Saberhagen I liked... not sure ... maybe it's the first three letters of his last name???

I have a small Sabo stack I have been working on for you, but I would appreciate if you gave me another month or two. I bought a few more boxes recently I have to decide to open or store away.
I have some terrible examples of his auto....although they look genuine. If you look at the O-Pee-Chee, he ran his last name over part of the first name....but I guess if I was a two-time CY Young winner and a World Series MVP....I might do that as well...
I need to get a 1986 Fleer PSA 10....anyone?

<< <i>Thanks, Saberhagen rocked. He almost single handedly won the 1986 Playoffs and World Series. (Ok, maybe that is a little strong but go with me.)

If you actually turn one of the cards over, you'll note that the Royals won in '85 (not '86.....just ask Bill Buckner if you don't believe me).
I agree that favorite player collections are great to see!

The auto does look off to me too. I live near Bret and have done various work with him over the past few years. Never quite seen him sign like that though?? I guess it is certified though. Used to collect cards in the 80s/90s but I'm in to U.S. coins now. Just decided to search for Sabes here and found this thread, happens to be the only thread about him too... He had some great years and seems to be under appreciated these days. Can't imagine many other World Series MVP/Cy Young winners that only have one thread on these boards. Really good guy though. Thanks for sharing!
