What not to do with your Gold Coins

    As collectors we feel this is really bad, but you have to look at it from another viewpoint. As a piece of jewerly I find the necklace very nice. Many holed coins were used as necklaces and worn as not only ornament but also a way of holding money.

  • The was a period in the US and UK after the 1930's that gold coin ownership was either illegal (US) or very limited (UK), however you could own as much gold jewellery as you like.

    Hence a lot of gold coinage suddenly became jewellery destroying a good many coins.

    I know the UK didn't change it laws until 1974, not sure when the US allowed gold back into public hands.

    I believe the law was repealed at the end of 1974 in the US as well.
