Internet World Coin Dealers

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good internet world coin dealer. I collect mostly world crowns and prefer to buy them certified. I do most of my shopping at NEN or Ebay but I am looking for more options. Any suggestions?

  • I think you will have some difficuly finding certified world coins for sale. Third party grading is only slowly gaining inroads into the world coin market.

One of the challenges is locating uncertified world coins that have not been cleaned or dampered with. Apparently cleaned coins is not that much of a concern for non-USA material. I have found most world coin dealers do not identify the problems that a coin has when listing it for sale. Strongly recommend you ask if hairlines, etc., exist before buying any uncertified world coin.

When I first started collecting I was buying a bunch of coins raw and I think I did buy a lot of cleaned or problem coins. For the past year I have been buying only NGC or PCGS certified coins. I have been buying less coins and paying a bit more but I know I will be better off in the long run as I will have a higher quality collection. I sometimes go on stretches where I do not find any suitable coins for a few months and I get a little antsy. This is why I am looking for additional sources to purchase from.

    www.brunkauctions.com

  • You may want to give a look at sixbid.com

Many reputable international coin auction houses partake in this auction grouping. Registration is required to look at some of the auctions - it is free. Juice through sixbid.com is often 20% but typically one can bid directly through the individual auction house at a 15% or less commission. Most of the auction houses identify problems, if any, of the items for sale. Grading tends to be conservative. The only negative is that shipping is usually a bit slow from outside the USA.
