Matte Proof Lincoln's for the week of 7/9 (no updated reports till 8/13)

WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,708 ✭✭✭✭✭
Four more than last week (32). First let me report that I will be unable to post an updated list until 8/13 due to business and personal travel .I encourage forum members to keep the thread alive with updates as you find them as it sure will make posting the updated list faster as well as keep all MPL collectors aware of available cents. I am pleased to report that I will be at the Baltimore Show on Friday so hopefully I can meet some of you.

One coin that must be avoided is Ebay # 140247148968 closing 7/11. The seller claims it’s a 1909 VDB matte (that’s right a VDB!) but even with the bad picture you can see its not. By the time I update this list on 8/13, almost half of the MPL’s will have been auctioned off and it will be curious to see how well they sell. Will the market remain strong? Have MPL collectors had enough of the continuing rising prices which have keep many from being able to buy? Or will anticipation of 2009 only increase the demand driving prices to new highs?

Until 8/13!

WS

    << <i>1915 PR 63 BRN
Michael Aron Rare Coin auction in Van Nuys, CA
    >>

Bought this one this afternoon. My first MPL... probably not the last!! The coin was listed in the auction catalog as a 1915 Matte Proof63BN. To me, this coin is an easy Red-Brown coin and is very attractive, uniform red-brown color with practically no toning/coloration. The obverse is mark free 64-65 except for a very small nick on Abe's cheek. Unfortunately, under magnification the reverse has a light scrape from the top of the left wheat ear to the bottom of the right wheat ear that would probably prevent it from getting holdered at PCGS. Otherwise it would be an easy PR64RB. Loved the way it looked anyways so I bid!!! Luckily I was the only floor bidder for it so all I had to do was beat out the mail bids image

    Hope to post pics soon.

why wouldnt it holder? A scratch? Is that different than a scrape, a bag mark etc?

For those of you who haven't seen yet, looks like the consensus is that it's not a matte proof. Pics posted in this thread (best pics around post #30 or so, still learning my camera)... LINK
