What's Hot and What's Not

Hey Everyone,
I am wondering what's hot and what's not on the dark side. Looking for recent trends in world collecting and also was wondering what areas does Krause values are understated. I've got several local dealers with loads of worldwide and just trying to see if I can pick up a deal or two. Let me know your thoughts and I thank you for any responses.

Too Hot: High-bore British bank and tradesmen's tokens, George II era, especially OMS Conders and Dalton silver. Also British Colonial Exonumia George III through Victoria.

Sorry, can't tell you what's not hot as I can't hardly afford what I collect anymore. (See above.)

I'm sure the active dealers and eBayers here in the forum are better positioned to clue us in on what areas to avoid.

    Best ~

I never pay too much for my tokens...but every now and then I may buy them too soon.

  • On eBay it only takes two bidders and a weak dollar to create a "hot" darkside market.

Most non-common late eighteenth century and very early nineteenth century coins of China and its provinces are being aggressivly competed for, especially any coin in a PCGS holder. The Champion auction held in late June produced "moon" money results for just about all better China coins. These were coins that are seldom seen on eBay and then only if they carry a 20% commission.

All true red copper darkside PCGS certified coins from just about anywhere, made before around 1920, are presently doing very, very well. Offerings of these type coins on eBay have dried up considerably recently except for some Japan material.

Looking at dealer buy lists in the July 2008 issue of World Coin News, non-modern Gold from the following countries looks to be in demand - Cuba, UAE, Czechoslovakia, Danzig, Russia, Norway, India, Finland, Poland, India, Sweden, Iran.

  • HOT: British India, especially high grade Silver 2 Annas, 1/4 and 1/2 Rupees. Crazy!
