So young. I sure hope he can get the help he needs.
GO BREWERS!
Go Brew-crew!

Plus, there's no guarentee the Brewers will sign him.
Here's a question for you guys. We all know that there have been many great black righty pitchers in MLB.
Bob Gibson, Doc Gooden, and Dave Stewart to name just a few.
However, how many great lefty pitchers have ever had a solid major league career ?
I can only think of Vida Blue who was great but yet very erratic. I can think of Dontrelle Willis who is struggling now.
I can't think of too many others. It's just weird to me that not many left handed black pitchers have either made it to the bigs,
or have had solid careers in the bigs.

I disagree. The Brewers’ farm system is loaded – as evidenced by the TEN all-stars at the Double-A level this year. While I am sad to see LaPorta go, we have a very young outfield ready to go for the future: Ryan Braun, Tony Gwynn Jr. & Corey Hart. We can’t play 4 outfielders, so why not move one of them for a pitcher who should be able to help us win right now? Even if he leaves at the end of the season we get 2 compensatory first round picks next year, so there’s not all that much to lose here, IMO.
good for shapiro for getting a top hitting prospect to help that woeful (minus sizemore) outfield. i didnt think he would get as good as a prospect given cc is likely a rental. the big question is whether melvin can get cc to sign. i know sabathia is a california guy...i doubt the giants and a's would fork over johan santana money for him (giants would, but not with zito and no offense on the roster). The two LA teams (with garland, lowe and penny as free agents) will likely be in the running. And lets keep in mind that CC has mentioned (through his agent) that he WILL test the market. so, the brewers may have the money..but, other teams may not only have more...but also more intangibles (bigger market, in California, etc).
i bet billy beane is happy. with cc gone and so many competing teams needing a solid starter (phillies, cubs, yanks), beane might have the best pitcher in the market (assuming, which i do think is true, harden is on the market).

<< <i>I thought MLB did away with the compensation picks? >>
Nope, they have them after the 1st and ,I believe, 2nd or 3rd rounds.
EDIT: It's the 1st and 3rd rounds. Check out this years draft, it tells you at the bottom who the picks are for.....

Laporta was drafted as trade bait and it paid off nicely. They lucked out and didn't have to give up Escobar or Gamel as well in the deal. There is nowhere for Laporta to play in Milwaukee
Regardless of whether or not Sabathia is a rental for the rest of the season, the Brewers win. Compensatory draft picks next year will give them 5 of the first 35 picks if Sabathia leaves via FA.
In other words, they lose Laporta instead of using Laporta to trade for someone the way the Reds used Hamilton to trade for a great young pitcher. Trading good minor leaguers for rentals is bad business.
