How does the color of of Cu-Ni small cents change with age?

I just noticed today that TPGs don't give RD, RB and BN designations to the copper-nickel Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents (yeah, I know, it took me awhile
). However, I have noticed that there is definitely some color variation between fresh-off-the-press red-brown FEs and Indians and their tan-brown circulated counterparts. Is the variation just not significant enough to warrant a brown through red designation spectrum? How "red" can a copper-nickel cent be?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.
