The Minnesota Twins & Oakland A's

These two franchises just have to be the best in the business. Year after year they just put winning teams
on the field after losing many of their superstars. The Twins spend a little bit more money then the A's, so maybe
the A's are more amazing. I would say that these two along with the Atlanta Braves have to be the best organizations
in baseball when it comes to drafting and trading/signing players.

And we all see how far that gets you in the postseason....
  • if they spent a little money they might get past the 1st round.

I agree, the Twins and A's are great organizations. No Hunter, Santana, and Silva and they do better than when they had them. And Liriano is still in the minors, even though I do not think he will ever regain his phenom form, he did not tell the doctor his arm hurt soon enough. The Indian's fans are just pissed because the Twins won the central 4 of the last 6 years and the Brave's fans are still angry about 1991. image

Sometimes getting rid of superstars actually helps the club, because now the other players actually have to contribute instead of standing around waiting for the superstar to hit/pitch them to a victory. The Mariners, in 3 consecutive years, lost Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr., and Alex Rodriguez, and then went out and won 116 games in 2001 (Ichiro's first season).

I was 7 months old when that happened image.

The A's and Twins haven't accomplished anything since the early 90's other than win a couple division titles. If you want to talk about a franchise that does this with greatness attached to their name, look up the Marlins. Yes, they normally dismantle after winning the Series, but they get want they want that one year and then rebuild and are back in the playoff hunt a few years later.

Twins are a big surprise for me this year. Shows how good the Twins on-field managing & coaching are (Gardenhire & Rick Anderson).

Mets overpaid for Johan. Hunter is not missed.

It will be interesting to see how the Twins fare against BoSox over the next 3 days. Can the young arms hold up on the road vs. a superior rotation (on paper).
    Enjoy your collection!

  • Even though the Twins got swept this weekend all is not lost. It happens when you run into a better team. They shoulda won the second the one but it is what it is. They will be in it until the end. The Twins and the A's do have very well run organizations they just need owners who are willing to add a couple of extra pieces at the trade deadline. I applaud the Cubs and Brewers for giving up talent to try to win now. Wish the Twins would do that from time to time. No way could do what the Marlins do. It's exciting to watch them every 5 or 6 years, and yes they are exciting, but the downtime inbetween would be way to hard to suffer through.

Not to down play what the twins have done this year they have played most of thier games at home so far this year.they are great in the metrodome lets see how they fair on the road. The M & M boys are stars for sure,Gomez is a threat on the bases however how many others would be regulars on other teams?
Gardenhire is probably one on thre best baseball men around he definelty make a difference.

If the Twins were sent to the NL when the Brewers were sent, they would have won a World Series in that time. The Marlins are a great model, but drawing the Giants and Cubs and post season opponents is a huge break.

I don't accept payroll issues for the Twins recent post season failures. The players they had were plenty good enough to beat the Yanks/A's. They just simply didn't play well enough.

Payroll gets you a huge advantage at making the post season, but it guarentees you nothing once you are there.
