Antonio Selvi Medal

Hi everyone,
I am usually a lurker but wanted to post this to see if anyone can shed some more light on it.
I purchased this off of ebay - item # 310059545275
If someone can link it that would be great.
It's a Selvi Medal, but I don't know if it is from the Serie Medicea or one of the personal medals he did. I am not sure what/who this is commerating.
My main question is the casting. Is it an original or a very early aftercast. The metal is brassy color with a nice patina and what I find most interesting is the reverse field appears to be hammered or whittled slightly above the cannon under the patina sort of like early bottles.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

  • It's hard to say from the pictures if this is an original or a later cast. But looking at the medal I find the details less sharp than I would expect, even for an old medal. My guess is that this is a later cast - but I am by no means an expert on this field. Nice medal anyway!
