Paypal buyer protection

Why does this change on almost each listing. I noticed a seller have a card for $500 and the buyer protection was 200. I've noticed the same seller have a card for 1000 with buyer protection of 2000. $600 card with buyer prot. of 200. What does this all mean? It looks like he accepts paypal e-check as well as checks and money orders. Does not accept CC. Thanks in advance.

  • I believe it is based on the seller's feedback rating. The higher the rating, the more the protection through paypal.

    If you have enough FB to sell, AND maintain a "Verified" Premier or Business Account,
    your BP number is $2,000.00.

    By XMAS, all accounts will be Verified and the BP will be "the full amount of the purchase."

    if the seller takes paypal then he has to take credit cards...even if the listing says he doesn't take credit cards he still has to credit cards. the only form of paypal you can opt out of is electronic check

    i have no idea why the same seller would have difference buyer protection amounts. it doesnt make any sense. it could be another glitch with ebay. its been a good 6 months now and ebay still hasnt fixed the feedback glitch. alot of times when i go to leave someone feedback, it says that i already did. so i wait a day or two and try again and it works fine.

    Any posssibility of a link or the seller's ID???

    Can't see anything in the plan other than "The seller's eBay feedback rating is at least 50" for the top tier coverage.

    PayPal Buyer Protection Plan:

    13.9 eBay Items Eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection. Every item on eBay (except Live Auctions and vehicles) that meets the above requirements is eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection up to $200.00 USD (Basic Tier Coverage Amount), but items are only eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection up to $2,000.00 USD (Top Tier Coverage Amount) and should be identified as eligible items in the eBay listing if:

    The seller's eBay feedback rating is at least 50;
    At least 98% of the seller's eBay feedback is positive;
    The seller has a Verified Premier or Verified Business Account in good standing;
    The listing was on an eligible eBay site (eBay.com and certain other eBay sites self identified as such)
    PayPal is listed as an acceptable payment method; and
    The seller is a PayPal User from one of the following countries:

    - Argentina - Italy
    - Austria - Jamaica
    - Australia - Japan
    - Belgium - Korea
    - Brazil - Mexico
    - Canada - Netherlands
    - Chile - New Zealand
    - China - Norway
    - Czech Republic - Poland
    - Denmark - Portugal
    - Ecuador - Singapore
    - Finland - Sweden
    - France - Spain
    - Germany - Switzerland
    - Greece - Taiwan
    - Hong Kong - Thailand
    - Hungary - United Kingdom
    - India - United States
    - Ireland - Uruguay
  • Link? Need to report this clown for circumventing Paypal fees. If I have to pay them anyone else selling on Ebay needs to be paying them. He has a basic account most likely and is not paying any fees. This is against Ebay and Paypal rules.

    It is the ebay auction for the PSA 7 1933 Ruth (full batting pose) that's ending tonight at 6:10 p.m. west coast time. He seems to have perfect feedback. I just don't understand the whole buyer protection and e-check thing. I looked at past auctions and he seems to sell some nice things. Can someone explain this. Also, EARLYCALGUY where did you hear that he has to take credit cards. I thought the seller can choose not to accept CC. PAYPAL shouldn't be so complicated.
    Thanks,

    Nope, if a buyer chooses to use his CC and you have only a basic account you will have to upgrade it.

    Good for you.

    A seller cannot choose not to accept credit cards and sell on Ebay.

    Sellers who offer PayPal as a payment option in their eBay listings (either via logos or through text in the item description) must accept card funded payments. Sellers must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account upon receipt of a card funded payment. Sellers may not communicate to buyers that they only accept account balance or bank account funded payments, or will not accept card funded payments.

    I'm at work and can't access ebay. That auction has been there all week. It is a PSA 7 1933 GOUDEY Ruth that ends tonight at 1810 hrs. Maybe something went wrong as I have stated with the auction. So if I buy a card and its $3,000 and he accepts PAYPAL he has to accept CC- no exceptions?image

    According to eBay, there are no recent past sales but there's one that ends in 2 days.

    Yup, been that way since early 2006

    Mickey

    i have never seen it change for the same sellers listings. If a person has 2000.00 in buyer protection all his auctions will be that way.

    I just checked your seller and all his auctions have the 2k in protection.

    Perhaps you saw a different seller?

    also, the auction that was linked makes no mention of not taking PP with CC.

    Steve

    Good for you.

    Winpitcher,
    Ebay went poof with the auction. I looked at his feedback and looked at the listings in the feedback to see the changes in buyer protection. The Ruth card on ebay has been "poofed" as if it never existed. It was the #144 in PSA 7. It was to end tonight at 610 pm western time. Obviously something was wrong. Leiascards=== It was a sweet looking card, wasn't it? Can we find the "poofed" auction or will ebay not let us access that.
