How did I do? Just traded for a Sesquicentennial quarter eagle

I've been eying this coin in my local B&M for some time, and have been reluctant to pull the trigger due to it not being in any major TPG plastic. Well, I could not handle it anymore and decided to pull the trigger and see if I could trade for it. I really really like the coin, and my local B&M guy seems to be a good guy whose not out to screw you. This coin will be going in for grading very very soon, but I'd like some opinions from you guys on what you think it would grade, and the overall feel for the coin.

edited to add: Opps, forgot about that part. I traded a 1999 silver proof set and a '94, '95 and '96 proof silver eagle. I thought it might be about MS60, AU 55 at worst. He figured it to be between 60 and 63. I have bunches of the eagles so trading them out was no biggie, but the '99 proof set was the only silver one I had, but I'm just not into those so no loss there for me.

to respond to the question "How did I do," perhaps you could let us know either what you traded for it, or at least what you/seller decided it graded.

whatever it grades it sounds like the dealer graded it AU. just going from the pictures it looks MS63 to me with only the typical marks on the obverse. you would have to judge the luster to know if it's full or broken which would render it AU. the only concern with this is that they were counterfieted enough to make it a lot safer buyer in a holder.

Well this is where I'll see if my dealer is a great dealer or a bad one. He said that if it comes back cleaned or counterfeit that I can get my coins back. I figured this is was a chance worth taking, since it will show just how good of a guy he is. I get good vibes from him so I'm hoping that it will just go into a PCGS holder. I feel comfortable with him so this will be the big test on if I'm correct in how I've judged him.

i don't think it's counterfiet and although there are some hairlines on the reverse i don't think it's been cleaned.

The luster looks much better in person then it does in my pathetic pictures. I'm still trying to get the hang of this picture taking, but my lighting is a big part of my problem, along with just using a lower end digital camera. It will just take me time to get used to taking pictures of coins.

From the hairlines, looks lightly circulated. Guess AU58 from those mediocre pics. Good luck and let us know how it slabs.

Wow, skeptical I'd say. Must be from Missouri. Maybe i'm naive but I usually take a man at his word.

I'm fairly confident in my dealer but you just never know if he made a mistake. I am 100% sure he would NOT sell a known counterfeit coin or try and pass a cleaned coin as having natural surfaces. However you cannot be an expert at everything so something might have slipped by.

My skepticism comes from being pretty new to collecting and this coin getting towards the upper end of my budget for a single coin. I'm 95% sure everything is a ok with the coin, and if it comes back as being only AU 50, I will still be happy with the trade because I really like the coin. My two big concerns are is it cleaned or is it counterfeit which I don't think it's neither.

thanks for the update - my initial reaction was it has the look of a 62 - as long as no major issues, 58 looks like a reasonable price point.

Nice photo Keets. I'm going to have to try and retake mine and see if it comes out better.

Agree and I like the color on that coin. What's the grade?
