    It happens.

I have destroyed HUGE MONEY when my ordinarily ultra-steady hands
suddenly turned spastic as I placed stamps in mounts. I have dropped
cards and grabbed curency the wrong way; the worst one I can recall
was dropping a $2K silver dollar on a concrete floor and proceeding to
step on top of it with a motorcycle boot.

Life is heck. Such is life.

I cant even begin to think what you guys are doing. My screwdriver never even makes it half way down the flip, let alone get near the card.

I pop the corner of by the flip.. with a tile snipper.. stick in a screw driver and turn sideways to pop the top and slowly
open the rest.. placing the screw driver in and turning if needed...

    lets see the card...
  • Recently had my dog urinate on a stack of Card Savers ready to be submitted.

I use an awl and a hammer.

Works on any holder, any size, any company.

First time was with the notorious holder from Hell.... the BVG! (Beckett)

I was going to use a tin snips at first but thought I'd try the awl & hammer.

I struck it once in the middle of the flip, and once in the middle of the bottom edge, and the holder split right down the middle very cleanly without hurting the card.

I pulled the holder apart from the sides and the card slid right out.

I've done this for well over 100 different cards and have never had a mishap.

No need to twist or bend anything.

Just don't miss hitting the awl with the hammer!!!!!

  • Sorry to hear about your card.

That's how I do it as well and I've never had a problem cracking dozens of slabs.

Yip! If you do it the way as described above, the screwdriver never even gets near the card.

I've found that a thin flat head screw driver does the trick on psa cases. Just wedge it between the two halves of the slab, and gentley work it around.

Fortunately it wasn't the Yaz! '62 Ed Bauta that had a real good shot at a 9. Not anymore. image

I don't understand why anyone cracks anymore.

    sgc's are super thick slabs.

i'd suggest some strong garden shears (short handled) to clip top portion off, then pry top off w/ a nice gentle butterknife.

    hindsight 20/20 however.

Yeah so? They have done it quite a few times from what I have seen.

Ahh it was an SGC slabbed card.

    That explains it.
