BAD SELLER - Looking for advice.

I was looking for a l982 ripken traded that i am planning on spending $140 for his auto plus another $60 for an inscription.
Needless to say I want a nice centered card to do this with....after shipping both ways and all costs this is going to be a $300 card when I am done.

I won this auction.
82 ripken auction

image

He ships me a different ripken, that is OC (still an 8 with no qualifier), but badly oc.

First he says you won a PSA 8, not the card in the auction

I tell him the auction clearly states "You are bidding on this card".

He now wants me to spend my money to ship it back to him, and refund my money.
So he cost me time, and now I may miss the deadline for getting a card submitted in time for the signing....and on top of that, he wants me to pay
my money to ship. Of course I will want to ship it insured and with DC. (TIME+$2.15ins+.40ins+1.74postage)

Will paypal expect me to pay shipping to get my refund???

Either way, THIS SUCKS!

  • Yes Paypal will require you to PAY for return shipping to get your refund.

At least you can neg the crap out of him without worrying about getting negged back.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Yea, he already threatened to neg me back, when i told him if i dont get the card in the auction i am going to neg him.
He said the card in the auction he doesn't even have, that he just used it as a template.

I told him, i have no worries of a neg back anymore. He also told me there was no difference between the card in the auction and the one he sent me.

Idiot cost me $5 plus time....Damn i am pissed.

A seller once tried to pull this on me with a '74 Schmidt PSA 8. He didn't give me too much of a hassle on the return, though.

Love the fact that he wrote:

"Bid on this 1982 TOPPS TRADED CAL RIPKEN JR PSA NM-MT 8"

    But meant:

"Bid on this 1982 TOPPS TRADED CAL RIPKEN JR PSA NM-MT 8 and I'll ship you a different piece of crap that you wouldn't pay nearly as much for!"

Can we see the card you actually received for comparison purposes?

Yea, i wouldn't even pay $1 for this card. Some of you may think it is not that bad, but when there are plenty out there that are nice for under $100, i would not want this card EVEN in my collection...especially since i am going to spend over $200 getting it signed and inscribed.

I like to think i am pretty picky on my cards (ie the bench that i just spent over $100 more for a half grade bump).

Wow, this truly is a sorry excuse for a seller. I'm sorry to hear you're going though all of this.

If you want I can tell him to shut the hell up for you. Let me know.

You of course spent your money to ship it back to him though, right? Weren't you pissed?!

No comparision. Terrible centering on the one he tried to pass off to you. He would have received a much lower closing price on the OC card.

    The seller is VERY inexperienced.

He has sold nothing for over four-years.

He has sold fewer than 16 items, since he registered.

Since the seller is CLEARLY a bad actor, I would file a
SNAD with PayPal. They will tell you to ship the junk
back to him. When your DC shows the thing was delivered,
    PP will issue your refund.

Sellers who pull this carp are FRAUDSTERS.

    I would NEG him.

"Seller Ships Inferior Cards and NOT The Cards He Pictures. TERRIBLE!!!"

I would also one-star him across the board. Sellers like this are the
cause of the TROUBLES that good sellers are now enduring.

Capital-Punishment for white-collar criminals would clean-up ALL commerce
    overnight. The Chi-Coms get it.

Did you check seller's HOF monitor before bidding?

ALL 100% accurate...i also looked at what he has bought, his only purchases are like 10 Etopps oswalts (LOL)...yes, inexperienced...but no excuse for using a "template" scan and stating you are bidding on "THIS CARD". I think he is half stupid and half thief.
He hasn't responded yet saying he wont first send me $5 paypal to cover my shipment back to him. If he refunds me $5 s/hi won't neg him, and just consider him stupid...but will give him neutral with all 1 stars. If he won't send me the $5, he gets neg.

that's a whole lot of trouble over 5 bucks.

    What trouble?
what, to decide whether i neg him or not?
  • yankeeno7yankeeno7 Posts: 9,253 ✭✭✭
I would just do it without a second thought of being upset as long as I eventually get the card I purchased. The 5 dollars sucks but nothing to be too concerned with...but the time, oh well. How much time do we waste here or on ebay??? Now, I would be pissed if he decided to screw me and NEVER send the card I actually purchased.

I think I would actually just go for the refund because I wouldnt trust that he would send me the Ripken. I'd take my money and go buy a Ripken elsewhere.

He said he doesn't even have the card in the picture, so he will never send it...
Agreed, Yea, i already am looking for another ripken...the only question is if i neg him or not. I dont like to neg people, even without fear of being neg'd back.
Its really up to him if he is going to send me $5 to cover my postage back to him.

$140 + $60 ? Wow, thats the scam right there! For that money you should be able to get the autographed tattooed on your back too.

    Yup.

But, since bad sellers chased away MANY of the good buyers one-at-a-time,
maybe the remaining good buyers can get rid of at least a few of the bad sellers.

Making a deal for the $5 is a mistake. It is much better to file a SNAD with PayPal
and get it on the PP record that the seller is a BUM.

Why don't you file a PayPal claim for SNAD. It's pretty significant to me!

If you keep the card, you'll always be unhappy with it, plus everytime you look at it, you'll be reminded of this incident.

Send it back.... Get your money back.... and then send a NEG to teach him a lesson in integrity!

There are and will be lots of other Ripkens out there!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Well, the way i look at it, i have searched ebay for a couple years now and haven't seen another 82 traded ripken auto'd for sale...and i really need it to
COMPLETE my 80s/90s dna collection. It is also the one card i am missing for my topps designs through the years collection....so as long as it will cost me $250, I might as well pay $60 more and have it inscribed "IRONMAN 2632 GAMES".

Ripken will look a lot better here than Lee Smith for my "40 years of topps designs" (already replaced rickey auto for 1980, murray for 78, 86 bonds)

    Storm is right!

If you try to make a deal for your return shipping money.... you're falling into the EXTORTION category, which PayPal frowns upon.

Look at it this way.... it's going to cost you a few bucks, which you'll soon forget about, to enable yourself to teach this scumbag a lesson.

Hopefully he'll think twice before pulling a stunt like that again!

Why bust the guy's balls for spending his money on what he likes? I also do TTM and IP autos and you will pay for the things you want in your collection. It may not be a financial bargain but so what? Ripken gets the price consistantly so it cant be all that bad.

My ghetto sportscard webpage...All Scans - No Lists!!! Stinky Linky
  • Great collection!! And you're right, Ripken will be a huge improvement over Lee Smith. Well done!! image
  • I am not suggesting it...but if you send him an empty box that required a signature confirming delivery...now that would bust his balls.
    Not that I'm suggesting it.

I know that it is a pain and that this seller is costing you time and a few dollars.

Neg him, after you have your dough back. Not much more you can do.

I am sure you will find the centered example soon enough.

Nice autos by the way, thanks for sharing!

    Steve
    Good for you.

    Yea, agreed...the anxiety has settled...
Will neg him, once i get my money back from paypal or my credit card...the 30 day wait saga...i hate this part...

Maybe he will refund without you having to wait?

File the claim, return the card as per paypals rules and perhaps this slimeball
will refund you on his own.

Did you at least inform him that you based your bid on the card pictured?

He may think that what he did was ok.

I appologise if that was already mentioned and answered.

    Steve
    Good for you.
