I have one card to crossover from SGC to PSA HOW???

If you had only one card to cross over as I do, wouldn't it be darn expensive? I mean don't you have to pay separate postage on the thing etc etc? How can I go about doing this crossover without spending a ton.

    Hi Chris,

it would depend on the value of the card as to whether or not it would be worth sending in by itself.

also, we have better luck cracking cards out and than crossing them over.

    what's the card?

  • it is a 1990 topps Frank Thomas No Name it is grade SGC 88

    Chris,

The most it would cost you, if you declared its value at only $499, would be $15 for grading/crossing over, plus $17.30 Return S&H and around $12 to send it Registered Insured .... for a grand total of $44.30.

You might want to consider cracking it and hoping for a PSA 8 or 8.5 ... which would more than make up for the cost.

The other factor would be .... How much do you have invested in the card already!

Are you just wanting it to be in a PSA holder or are you wanting to sell it afterwards?

    crossing from SGC to PSA?

Uh..... OK, its usually the other way around, unless your a registry guy.

I would never pay 10% of the cards value just so it can be housed in an inferior slab..... but that just me.

    inferior slab? lol ok.

I'd expect to read that over at the SGC forum only no one posts there.

Unless you're just looking to have it in a PSA holder versus an SGC holder (and are willing to pay $30+ for that preference), I don't really see the reason to make the switch. This is a card that sells due to scarcity moreso than grade in NM-MT condition and I would suspect that it would sell for virtually the same in either a PSA or SGC holder given an identical level grade. Now, if we were talking SGC 98 to a PSA 10, there might be enough of a change to offset the expense associated with the crossing over.

Unless you need if for a registry set I too would simply leave it as is. I do not see that card
getting less money in the inferior SGC slab if you are selling.

News alert. Cards do not cross at a high rate even if they are very worthy. PSA is very stingy with cross overs especially with vintage. I've literally wasted tons of money with this. Then I crack and submit and some 8's and 8.5's get 9's. When submitted in the holder, you alot of times get the evid. of trimming or minimum grade not met. Cross overs are like donating money to PSA. Try crossing over Mantle's from SGC to PSA - it's generally a waste of money. JMO.

Not worth crossing from a financial sense. Would only make sense if you are adament that is matches your other slabs and they are not SGC, you are working on a Frank Thomas PSA regitry set or some other non-financial reason.

Your opinion is correct. Cards get unfairly scrutinized when sent in in competitors slabs. I'm sure this goes for all the grading companies besides the jokes of the industry.

Crack it if you want a chance at a better grade.

That's a lie. Heck, they've got over 40 posts this year. Granted it's probably only 3 people with mulitple id's patting each other on the back for choosing big black clunky holders, but at least it's a start.
