and here we are, approximately one day and 50+ replies into this thread and still(unless i missed it) we are without a realistic topic for a thread which would lead to intelligent forum discourse. come, come guys. we strike me as a rather bright group. Can we come up with AT LEAST ONE IDEA or is my expectation that futile??
would it seem like this place had more intelligent discourse to members if they didn't click on threads which may not entertain their intelligence and wit?
that's one of the things I've learned in the year+ I've been around here, if you're likely not going to like a thread based on its topic, don't click on it.
however, I DO understand and appreciate where he's coming from...
The title, "Man-Oh-Man!!!!!", is curious enough to get folks to open it. Appears to me that the content in the OPs original post in this thread is in fact the very same thing he's griping about.

Did you ever stop to think jsf that threads like you cameo thread might not even be seen by many because they don't want to have to read through 2 pages of drivel to find it?

Maybe rather than relying on the most recent post to move threads to the top, the hosts should borrow Ebay's "best match" software code.
hey dac076, maybe since you have so many suggestions about how the forum should be run you can come up with one quality suggestion for a thread topic as i've been asking for. you don't have to get into a phsycho-analytical investigation about what my intent was, as though there's some underlying motive. i'll set things straight for you...........................
1. the content here as of the past 1-2 years has been dwindling while the Hobby in general seems fixated on Bullion as opposed to coins. 2. many quality members have either left, been shown the door or assumed the status of lurker. 3. so many new members have arrived during this same timeframe that the edifying nature that i had come to expect here has been watered down to the point where it's almost non-existent. 4. as a result of the above, many of the good threads struggle to stay on page one. 5. this tends to further aggravate the problem and continue the downward spiral.
i will await not your rebuttal, but instead your topic suggestion if you have one.

Huh? Maybe that type of post is what's leading to the problems you highlight. Are you confusing me with someone else, or are you just trying to pick a fight to generate controversy? Maybe you can remind me of all of the "suggestions" and "phsycho-analytical investigation" you refer to? My last post was merely meant to be humor, and if that offends you, you need a much thicker skin. Finally, if someone has an idea that meets *your* standard as a "quality suggestion for a thread topic", wouldn't they just go ahead and post it? Or are you the keeper of forum topics now?!
I haven't been a member long, although I lurked for a while before posting, but I'll offer my opinion. There have been a number of prolific and thoughtful posters who have left, but there are still others whose posts I enjoy. And you can tell from the huge post counts that they have continued to contribute frequently over the years. This is still a great place to learn, and a much better resource than any coin club.
As for subject matter, I understand the desire by the ownership to avoid the name calling and nastiness that topics such as politics can provoke. And it's true that there are other forums for those subjects. But as someone who loves politics as well as coins, it's tough to sanitize my posts sometimes. And I think that although this is a numismatic forum, it's natural to want to come here and talk about a variety of things, just as we would with friends and families in our everyday lives. Also, coins/history/politics often overlap. If everyone was respectful, no censorship would be needed but that's not realistic.
Things go in cycles. If you search back in the forum history, you would find topics that were hot then but are mundane now. Statehood quarters might be a good example. And there are often multiple Ebay threads, particularly when policy changes are taking place. But that's normal since so many here buy and sell in that venue. The bottom line is that like anything, it's what you make it.
I would think that would be a good thing. Otherwise some here would be lamenting that the forum is "dying out". Just like the hobby itself, we rely on new blood and diversity of opinions and interests. I wouldn't want to belong to a forum where everyone thinks the same way and collects the same series. I enjoy reading threads about Colonials as well as modern bullion, even though I don't collect either of those. And I don't think the addition of new members waters it down at all. JMO.
Why doesn't the OP post relevant, thought-provoking, numismatic-related threads, rather than this Jerry Springer junk? He's probably just upset one of his "genius" threads didn't receive much attention.
This forum is open to all that is what makes it so fun you get to see nice coines, junk coins doctored coins you name it. But Keets is right this forum has gone stagnant we all need to just have fun, But that is just me.
hey pcgs69, thanks for the compliment but i my IQ is below the Genuis threshhold. i consider myself smarter-than-the-average-knucklehead, though. you're right, too, i did get pretty pissed about 3-4 when i had a superb thread ignored but i managed to get past it. i would also remind you that this thread is simply a quest for some Topical Thread Suggestions which might prove edifying, but i still haven't had one worthwhile suggestion...........................and i am very, very patient so this could be a long thread.
I am certainly new to this and all other forums. Seems to me that this forum has its good/bad days/weeks. In any case it is head and shyoulders above any other forum I have found. If you think this forum is poor, go to the NGC site to see what poor really is!!

look familiar. now, what about the topic??

Here is an idea;
New members should take the time to "search" for an old topic and ttt it to the present and add a contemporary posting to it.
The array of old postings is unlimited and it seems many (not all) new members never bother to search our thread history and bring it forward.
