When you have workers at your home do you hide any evidence of coin collecting?

You lodged a complaint against someone for asking an innocent question?

Yes I did. It wasn't only because he was looking through my trash, even though in my opinion that is unacceptable. He added bogus charges to my bill, and didn't do what he was suppose to do (ie: I ended up redoing all the softward and installation as he screwed it up), etc.
  • Today I closed the door to my office and made sure the workmen tended to their business in the other part of the house. BTW, all coins are kept in a safe deposit box.

A little like instead of posting a picture of a Mercedes you post a picture of your BMW. image

<< <i>I also hide everything, and it is a pain. But you have to be careful nowadays.

A recent situation just happened to me, where I decided to go with satellite internet access at home and had the installer out. He needed access to my computer/desk area to hook up the modem, install the software, etc. I spend the evening before putting everything away related to coins. While he was there, I saw him looking in my garage basket which was next to my desk, and asking what these things were. I had a bunch of old cardboard 2x2 flips that I had taken the coins out and thrown away. He noticed those and was asking what there were.

I didn't want to tell him what they were, so I made up an excuse that they were for my work and I use them for "sampling." I wanted to say none of your f------ business! I did call the company and lodge a complaint against the installer. Hopefully, that won't come back and bite me in the butt. >>

Take out your trash next time. People are naturally curious and if he wasn't rutting around in the garbage, and just happened to see things on the top of the basket, sometimes people try to make small talk.
To call the company and make a complaint for that......that's pretty arrogant and rude of you, imho.

I would have just said, "nothing really....just throwing away a lot of old stuff laying around".

It's good to be cautious, but if one is overly paranoid, get an apt inside a bank's vault or learn to use the safety deposit boxes, etc.....or a new hobby where you don't have to worry about anything......

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

So, there is a little more to the story, eh? Full disclosure is always nice....but, I wonder, if the other stuff didn't happen, would you still have lodged a complaint?

It would be foolhardy to leave anything around for strangers to see.

I'm currently in a monumental clean-up and clean out of my house and garage. (It's amazing how much junk piles up after twenty-five years in the same place!) In the rafters of the garage I found some signs that my former coin club, which disbanded two years ago, had put out to advertise its shows. (The last time the club held a show was in October, 1986.) I took out my saw and cut them up into small pieces that effectively eliminated any reference to coins. They will be going out with next week's garbage.

The thing about coin mags, cats, etc. in the garbage is that if they are accompanied by your address on them or anything else, it could be traced to your house by somebody than just the stooges taking it off of the curb. I am very careful with disposal of garbage.

Also when I had the carpets redone this year I took care in covering evidence of "interesting" coin related things....
