I've heard thru the grapevine that a PCGS slabbed VF is worth in the neighborhood of $2700 to $3000. A raw one would probably be 50% of that.

Put "BUFFALO" in your title and you're likely to get some future posts by the die-hards that visit only occasionally.

Some price guides don't even show it!

    That's how rare it is!

I follow auction and other sales results closely for major variety coins such as the 1936-D 3 1/2 leg and the better doubled dies in all series. My current listed value is $2750 for a VF20.

BTW-I feel it is a perfectly legitimate variety-nearly as impressive as the 1937-D and MUCH rarer.
  • At the Baltimore show I showed an ANACS certified 3 1/2 legger to Rich Uhrich graded VF 30 with a full horn. It's currently off to PCGS for a crossover at any grade!

If it crosses, it will be the last variety covered for my registry set.

Hobo nickel carvers must have done a ton of these.
They were thought to be a working die error but where
is the proof for this ?.

  • Working die?? They are an abraded die just like he 17-d 3 1/2 leg 26-d 3 1/2 leg and the 37-d 3 leg.
  • TexasNationals,
With such low populations, your F-12 is a great catch. Congrats!

  • Does anyone have a pic of this coin? The fee-bay link did not show very much detail of the buffalo. I have a small group of buffaloes that I can search. This will keep me off the streets and out of the pub, but most important, out of the wife's hair.image
