    I think what you're seeing with your 1000X power microscope, is a colony of microbes by the lower serif of the S.

  • This is a possibility Ray but I think it is more likely an inverted S as referenced on PAge 146 of the Cherry Pickers Guide Volume 4

    Just looks like a Small "S" mint mark variety as seen below.
