Dansco album oddities

Getting an answer to these questions is not going to revolutionize my entire life. Yet I am curious:

I just purchased the two album set of State Quarters with proofs. These sets are the first Dansco albums i've seen that do not have the plastic protector sheets installed in the album. Instead, you get an envelope with the plastic sheets and you must install them yourself. I've seen at least 15 other types of Dansco albums and they are not like this. Is there a clever reason for this or is it just 'because'.

The Dansco album for presidential dollars appears to be extra cool, with extra sheets of paper between the coin pages with details and portraits of each president. This was an unexpected bonus, as I had merely expected a plain old Dansco album with pages for coins. No question here, just an observation.

There is no spot for a 1996W dime in the basic Roosie Dansco album. Darnit. It reinforces the notion that a hole in a Dansco for a particular coin makes that coin worth more!

So...what other mysteries await? Are there any other unusual, different or cool Dansco albums?

    Adam;

I would suspect that Dansco is cranking out these State Quarter & Prez Albums so fast that insering the slides would be too labor intensive.

Just wish Dansco would allow collectors to "Special order" discontinued Albums... I'd be willing to pay extra for this option.

Another oddity: Some foreign Dansco albums have a Red binder !!

You are correct there. It was not easy to put those plastic sheets into a fresh album, it took some time.

After doing it, I was surprised they inserted the plastic slides into any of the albums!!! It would be a real time saver in their manufacturing process!
  • I believe you can custom order albums from Dansco, although they cost more.

They don't include the 96-W dime in the roosevelt album but they do include the 22 no D in the Lincoln. I think they just like to try to line up all the P D S coins in a row and don't like them out of line... All the proofs in a row instead of zig zagging. I have not seen the Dime album but that was my impression with the Lincoln album.

I asked a year ago, never got a reply from the company image I'd be willing to pay $100 for a Dansco #7240 "Cuba Type" !!

I was curious about the quarters with proofs too but never thought to ask. image

I really like the presidential album with proofs. As soon as the Proof and Mint sets are all available at the same time this year I'll be completing another page.
  • I really like the PDSS State Quarter album, it is sharp when you have all the quarters filled in. Same thing with the Presidential book with proofs.

I just purchased a Dansco Roosie Album and there is a slot for the 1996 W B.U. Dime. I am not sure why yours does not have it.

Is that a Dansco 7125 you purchased?

Might be a stupid question, but is the 1996W next to the two other 1996 issues? Because if it is, mine doesn't have that hole.

    Interesting.
  • It is a 8125 and the 1996 W is between the 1996-S Silver Proof and the 1997 P

The albums has holes for the 1979-S types 1 and 2 but not for the 1981-S types 1 and 2.

Only the Dansco Kennedy Half album (8166) has holes for the 1965-1967 unc AND SMS coins, the others do not.

Mystery solved, then. Thanks! I have the 7125. I had suspected that if any album has the 1996W slot, it's the 8125.

It's sort of a bummer realizing that I have a few non-proof Dansco albums...and a few coins that only fit into the proof albums. Darn holes.

Does this mean that I need to fill up another Dansco? Hm.
