You don't need an '09 Krause.

If you have the '08 20th century edition just hang onto it.

The new one has very few price changes.

I'll start a thread later about what there are (at least as far as base metal moderns).

  • The only reason to buy the '09 Krause is because of the DVD. The book is now a $37 paper weight in my house.

I'm seriously considering returning it and the DVD. I have no use for either.

I had a 2007 Krause so I figured it was time to get the newest one. I probably will use the 2009 for a few years.

    There's a big difference between the '07 and '09.

Unfortunately cost is one of them.

I have no use for either, too. Once you copy the pdf files to the hard drive, the book and DVD are useless.

I am old fashoned, I like having pages to turn. However, I have the '08 and unless I see something I need in the '09 I may skip a year and go with the '10.

In my opinion they should only publish them every other year and take greater pains at correcting the glaring errors.

The most recent KM book that I had until the purchase of the forementioned 2009 20th Century book was the 2006 edition which was the last one to include stuff from the 2000's in the same book as the 1900's. I buy my books every 2-3 years depending on need. Now that the new edition of the KM (and Pick) books include a DVD, it gives me good reason to get them. I have a copy of the Pick book (Std. Catalog of World Paper Money), volume 3, 1961-date coming in the mail any day and it will have a DVD with it (which means I can put it on a portable hard drive.) I also plan to purchase the 2009 21st Century book when it becomes available next month. If you plan to buy the KM or Pick books, I personally recommend one of two booksellers - Amazon.com and Books-A-Million.com. They're cheaper than Barnes and Noble (with Millionaire's Club card at Books-A-Million) and usually there is free shipping if you're not in a big hurry to get the book.

Speaking of DVD's, if anyone here has the 19th Century KM on DVD (which came with the 2008 20th and 21st Century DVD's on a 3-disc set) that they want to get rid of or are willing to loan, please PM me. I talked to Tom Michael at Krause and the next 19th Century book will be coming out the latter part of next year, and it will have a DVD. I cannot wait until then and my 19th Century book is a previous edition which I can no longer rely on for pricing. Thanks in advance.

My most recent Krause is the 1982 that I got when I was a pup. I collect mostly older ie 19th century coins, and I believe the prices in Krause are questionable anyway, so if I want something I research sites like Heritage, or lessly eBay.

Oops. I recieved this book as a birthday present and didn't
realize the giver had something else on the same order which
I happened to see. The cost is similar to previous years I think.

I have no use for either, too. Once you copy the pdf files to the hard drive, the book and DVD are useless.

If that's the case, then I suspect some people may do that and sell the DVD on ebay.

Good idea! It would be cheap to ship without the book. I might just do that.

I was gonna start a thread on price changes but can't find enough to
bother. I've even been spot checking older coins and silver and don't
    see much.

They increase the Maltese circulating coins around four fold but there
are very few of these so it's not very significant. Panama has a few in-
creases in the moderns including at least one better date with a big up-
tick but the other changes are minor.

  • Here's a TIP for you guys...

I was looking into the 2009 Krause, $60 in the local store,
and is the same coins like the 2003 Catalog!
I guess they didnt produce any new 19'th century coins in the last 5 yrs image

Anyways, To make a long story short.... I have found set of 3 Krause Dvd's 1801 to Date.... just the $25 +ship +CA tax. $31.56 used to go for $99 + +

I just purchased my copy today, so I didnt got it yet, but I read it on some other Board, and those that did were happy with it....

  • But again, I believe the paper copy of the Krause book is the bible of the world collector,
Not necessarily for the pricing, anyways is just indication...
Just for the fact that the pictures are in scale is worth it and I greatly recommend it... is a must and, I can’t see myself without it.

Went online this morning, and lookie-lookie what Krause is selling.....Std. Catalog of World Coins 20th Century 2009 edition, World Paper Money 1961-date 2009 edition, and the 2009 U.S. Coin Digest - DVD only (no book!) So now those who want the DVD only can have it without the book.

The oldest Krause's (1974?) go back even further.

For some coins I think the pricing in the '76 edition is more accurate. The '86 was a landmark edition as well.

Yeah, but it's a hundred bucks for the set. I don't need all three.
