The 4 train going uptown will take you right to the stadium. It runs along Lexington avenue, and can be gotten at 14th, 42nd, 59th, and 86th streets. Get there very early and visit monument park. I was there last Tuesday and monument park was closed by 6PM for a 7:05 game start. Have fun.

Cameras are fine, camcorders are a no-no. Monument Park opens 2 hours before the game and closes 45 minutes before the game. We were there when the gates opened (gate 2 was close) and we got shut out. Kind of missed out after a 450 mile ride.

Bring a good camera. I didn't so I have a bunch of fair pics and no good ones.

Plan on having a great time.

Bring lysol for the smell and stock up on canned goods and bottled water if you're sitting in the bleachers - like a nuclear fallout shelter back there. Also, don't waste your money on a hot dog. One of the best kept secrets in baseball is that Yankee Stadium hot dogs are just plain terrible. I've been to 7 different major league stadiums (Fenway the most, naturally) and can safely say Yankee Stadium has the worst food of the bunch. Good food stadiums that I've hit are: Petco Park, Jacobs field, Angel Stadium with Fenway and Dodger Stadium on the 2nd tier.

Take the subway. It's the easiest, fastest and safest way to get there and back. Just make sure you have enough money on your card for the return trip, as the line to buy a new card will be *very* long after the game. The easiest is to take the 4 from either Grand Central (42nd) or 59th Street. Again, take the FOUR train uptown. It's easiest to be in the very LAST car on the train, but that's not a real big deal.

I'm not a huge fan of Stan's, as it's just too crazy, but I know lots of people are. There isn't much to do in the neighborhood other than drink. You can do a quick tour of Monument Park if you get to the stadium real early, but I think you need to get in line. I'm not really sure how that works.

There is a subway that goes from the West Side, which might be more convenient, based on your location. Tell me where you're staying and I'll let you know.

I just saw this thread and will be attending a game next weekend. I am staying at the Radisson at Lexington Ave. Any helpful hints on the best way to get to Yankee Stadium would be greatly appreciated.

Dave, we drove and parked on jerome street across from the getty gas station near 157th. Got there about 1030-1045 am for a 105 pm start. The guys at the gas station said they would watch the car and we believed them and got lucky. It's about a 4 block walk from the stadium, we passed the new and then the old stadium, landed at gate 2 which got us right near monument park.

After the game we walked back, took a quick left and we were on the GW bridge in under 15 minutes.

I think we were lucky.

Every time I have ever gone to a game we would take the subway - There are so many other people doing the same thing it's tough to get lost, like an earlier post said just follow the masses and you'll be good. From the Yankee Stadium website -

The Yankee Stadium Subway stop is located right outside the Stadium at the corner of 161st St. and River Ave. The Stadium is conveniently reached by several subway lines and a trip from midtown Manhattan takes less than 25 minutes. The #4 train, as well as the B (weekdays only) and D trains make stops at 161st St./Yankee Stadium. Metro North train service to Connecticut and Westchester County is available at the 125th St. subway stop

Where are you staying in Midtown and when are you going? I live in Midtown and I've been a Yankee partial season ticket holder for 10 years. Where are your seats?

If you are on the west side, take the D (express) or B (local) - you can catch that at 34th, 42nd, 50th, and 59th st. The directions from the east side are spot on. Get off at 161st River Ave / Yankee Stadium.

Yankee Stadium food / drinks are way overpriced, but if you're hungry I'd recommend the chicken fingers and fries. Get the large beers for $9.50 (yea, they are Bud or Coors Light, but why pay $12.50 for the Heineken). Stan's before the game is alright, but I actually like the bowling alley which also is a bar.

We are attending the Saturday game and our seats are in the upper deck behind home plate. We are staying at the Radisson on the corner of Lexington Ave. Thanks all for your help. We will definately visit the monument park area and look forward to a great game.

The Radisson is at 48th st right? If it's nice out, I'd suggest strolling up to 59th st and Lexington and taking the 4 train uptown there - get out at 161st - you can't miss Yankee Stadium - you can see the Stadium from the train. If it's raining, take the 6 at 51st Street uptown to 59th, then transfer to the uptown 4.

As others have said, make sure you get to the stadium at least 1 1/2 - 2 hours in advance if you want to get to Monument Park. Since it's the Red Sox on Saturday, there might be large crowds who will be attending.

Get there early enough to get out to Monument Park! You line up on the left-field side of the stadium. Line up early, the line moves at a good pace.

You might not have seen the greatest Yankees ever play at Yankee Stadium, but as a tribute, the experience is probably as good as anything seen at The Hall of Fame. You also can go right up to the plexiglass panel looking onto left field and get a great view of the bull pens.
