Antique Roadshow PBS -- 1958 football cello

Just watched a woman show a handful of 1958 cello football packs.

The appraiser asked how many she had at home. She said 312!

The appraiser said they were worth $500 - $1,000 each.

  • I missed the beginning. Where did she get them?
  • Who cares where she got them. Where did they go?
  • I believe she said her father had a toy store in the '50s and he just put them away for the grandkids. I've always wondered how and why anyone would not open packs. Everything I've ever bought, I ripped because I'm not that disciplined. I'm a collector and I guess the lady in the show is not, therefore she didn't need or want to have them opened. image

Do you think a find like that would affect the market on high grade 1958 Football?

How many Jim Brown RC would be in those packs?

    132 card set. 312 Packs...12 cards/pack.
3744 cards total. Possibly 28 Jim Brown RC in high grade.

Assuming 50% of the cards were gradeable, would 1800 new cards in a set affect the market?

You'd also have to assume that the new owner(s) would have the cajones to bust the packs, though. There's at least an even chance that these packs will remain sealed, IMO. Many hardcore unopened collectors would never consider busting packs like these.
