My Recent Interesting Sports Related Find

Just recently picked up four games worth of 16mm coaches films that belonged to former NBA player Elmore Smith. They are from the 1973/74 and 1974/75 season's. They were shot in color and have sound! I just shipped them off to be professionally transferred to dvd. I would consider this to be a pretty rare find and a nice addition to my collection.
If we have any NBA junkies on the boards who are into this kind of thing drop me a PM.

    What teams?
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
  • He was with the Lakers at the time. The main reason I wanted them was that Brian Winters was a rookie with the Lakers during the 1974/75 season so this would be the earliest pro footage that exists.
I also have coming in game 3 of the 1976 playoffs between Detroit and Milwaukee. That will be the CBS broadcast and that will be the earliest footage of him in a Bucks uniform. It wasn't cheap but it also has never circulated among collector's.

    1973-74 Season:
    1/4/74:Lakers vs. Golden State

    1974-75 Season:
    10/18/74:Lakers vs. Golden State
    10/25/74:Lakers vs. Pistons
    12/1/74:Lakers vs. Phoenix

If you think that find is impressive, you'll like this. I found the June 21, 2008 Brewers vs. Orioles game on my DVR tonight. It has sound and everything!

Too bad there wasn't any Blazers footage. The video you're referencing comes from just before I became aware of pro sports - I started following Portland around 1976 as a 10-year-old.

Remember three to make two? I think many of today's "stars" would greatly benefit from that old rule.

I might be able to get this one at some point in time: 3/5/78-Milwaukee @ Portland. I have a source who can get stuff from the CBS archives but it's a slow process and not cheap with games running $250-$300 each. I will see what I can do but the Bucks got killed in that one so I'm not so quick to spend my hard earned money on a blowout! image
