Landscape Printed Cards - What is the correct orientation in a PSA holder?

Does anyone have an opinion on this? Apparently, neither does PSA. Is it up to the graders discretion as to how the cards will go into the holder?

I'm not sure, but I always put my cards in their sleeves or holders the top way. That seems right to me. I think the PSA needs a quality control check list.

To me, the top scan is correct.

I agree, but, look at the backs...

The upside down card is the one on the top.

So, is it the front of the card that determines orientation or the back???

The top one if you're gonna store it upright and the bottom looks good if you are going to display it sideways

The back orientation determines the way its put in the slab, so the bottom one is correct.

the bottom one is correct...the top one is an older holder so maybe they've changed in recent years.

The top orientation pleases the eye, but the bottom one displays the reverse correctly.

    Bottom one must be correct.

My opinion is that the position of the card number on the back of the card should determine how a horizontal card stands vertically. It should be in the same spot as any vertical card in the set. When the card number on the back of the horizontal card is in the same location as the card number on the vertical card, then turn them around and that's the correct way for the front to be displayed.

They would not be stackable with all the current vertical holders.

I don't think it really matters.

    PSA seems to agree.

You can send in 10 such cards in an order and not all will come back the same.

    Good for you.
  • I like the vertical angle better than the horizontal...but that could just be because that's how i'm used to seeing it.

I always put my landscape cards pointing left unless putting it pointing right would match the backsides of the regular cards, if you know what I mean.

I vote for getting the back right-side up.

I typically only read the back of a card when I first add it to my collection personally. The card number is on the flip and if I want to check out stats again at a later point, I will look them up on the internet. That said, I want the front of my cards to display consistently, especially in a set, and believe the top card in the scan is the "correct" way.

I understand why the bottom card is slabbed the way it is given the back of the card, but what about where the back is in landscape too? I have a couple 1955 Topps All American cards that are in the slab the "wrong" way as an example.

I am not sure even Nick's guideline of going by where the number is would always work either as some releases aren't numbered and others move the position of the card number around (for example in a subset).

I think this problem with PSA is ridiculous. This is not going to work well when I go to display some of my other horizontal looking cards together.

In my opinion if the back is portrait style then that should determine how that set is holdered. If not, than whichever way has the card number towards the top on the back. PSA should at the very least be consistent within each set. just my humble opinion.
