My latest finds...

I recently won this auction on the bay: Linky
And as I was going though my new acquisition, I found a couple of interesting coins. Coin 1:
Image 1: "Gold Toning"

Image 2:

This is a pretty interesting coin to me because it looks like one of those coins before the "cents" were put on that was attempted to pass for a gold piece. Really a shame though because there are a lot of nice details left on the coin.
What do you think?
Coin 2:
Image 3: Is that a die crack I see?

Image 4: Reverse

I think I'll throw coin 1 on the bay and put the history behind it and see how many bites I get!
What do you think coin 2 would grade (I have my ideas)?
Do you think that the coin 2 "error" would add to the value, or subtract?
Hope you enjoy!!
I haven't even started on the pennies and buffs yet... hopefully I'll find some goodies there too!!

I agree that the coin is interesting. I wonder if those punch marks were attempts to see if the coin was actually made of gold.
Racketeer nickels are sure fun to collect. My favorite was one I sold a couple of years ago that
was obviously circulated, plated and had the edge reeded. Very nice reeding job as well. I think that
it was a 40 or so and sold for about $70. I've been looking for a replacement in better condition
since to no avail! Maybe I should have kept it.
lol

PS: not worth a lot at this point. Maybe $15?
Anybody have any idea if those are die cracks on the second set of images?
Woud that die crack add to or subtract from the value?

As for the gold 1883 Racateer Nickel, lot's of folks already have these and once the story broke about the gold plating, thousands were plated and then sold to the public and are still being sold to the public. Given the damage displayed on your coin, I really doubt it will attract much attention.
Good Luck though!
