PCGS Coins PCGS won't accept for registry

I was floored when I learned PCGS won't accept their own coins for registry. I have two different slabbed New York State quarters I wanted to add to my modern registry set and was told PCGS does not accept them. One is a sample slab, grade MS00, that's right MS00! Yes, I know it would lower my score. The other one is the slab PCGS gave me for joining the collectors club. It is graded MS65 but the only number it has is #3/5000. Do I need to be more careful on my PCGS coins? Are they not all guaranteed to be the grade and guinuine?

  • It probably has something to do with the catalog of cert. numbers. The sample slabs and the 911 slabs have no cert number, I would presume, and therefore are not in the data base.

It sounds to me that you are very aware of WHY PCGS would not include THOSE two coins in the Registry. I'm sure just about everyone else who reads this thread understands this also. My question to you is why did you post this information? Steve

From my take the sample slab coin is not graded, hence the MS00. The other is a gift coin, and I can understand why they would not allow them. Not sure how they found 5,000 MS65's so easy, perhaps some are not graded correctly! I am sure you can send them in for review, and any that do not make the grade will have a refund of the amount paid ($0.00).

samples are gifts, and so is the rip off of the 9-11, and the 9-11 was a fund raiser.

sounds simple, I have 2 9-11's that cost over 500.00 and when I sold one I made it loud and clear that they wouldnt be accepted.

not to mention that "gift" coins dont really fit in the reg.

It's PCGS's sandbox. They'll tell you what plastic sand toys you're allowed to play with.
