"So it looks like Tiger Woods is done for the year with that knee injury he had. Yeah, how sad. About the only people who are happy about that is Kinko's, since they'll be in charge of reprinting all those big checks that tournament organizers had already preprinted with Tiger's name on them."
This will be the only time I mention Tiger Woods in the same sentence as Michael Vick, but you can bet that Woods' cards will disappear from ebay just like Vicks. I'm glad I'm not only these fellows that paid thousands for one of Woods' cards:
If Tiger Woods can win the Open on a fractured leg and a torn ACL and Ben Hogan can win the Open and the Masters after getting hit by a bus what excuses are left for us weekend hackers riding in carts when we play poorly?
So Tiger will miss a few more tourneys. It's not like his career is over.
While it is a certainty that there will be a signifcant dip in his card values, I wouldn't expect them to become Vick-like.
I think, all-in-all, it makes his accomplishment in the U.S. Open even more amazing. We all knew he was hobbling on a recently repaired knee. Know we know just how serious his pain must've been and how dedicated he was to play through it, including the extra 19 holes he had to play on Monday!
If anything, this will only add to his mystique. When he returns next season to open with a win at Augusta, his card prices will creep back to quite respectable levels.

Well said! I personally will not sell any Tiger cards and will look to find some good deals in the near future. This is a sad day for me because I immensely enjoy watching Tiger play. I'am sure the other Tour players might feel a little relieved that Tigers name will not be at the top of the leaderboard in any tournaments for awhile.
<< <i>Does golf really have a season? I guess it does up north, but I didn't know that the PGA actually designated a "season".
This is a serious question. >>
Yes they do have a full season. I believe there is a tournament every week in each month of the year. The prime part of the season is April through August I would say because thats when the majors are played. I think after the Ryder Cup or The Tour Championship in September is when the season slows down for the top players and picks up again in January.
The 2008 regular season will feature 49 events in 45 weeks, of which 48 are official money events, including four alternate events played the same week as a higher status tournament. The 49th event is the Ryder Cup team event. Most members of the tour play between 20 and 30 tournaments in the season. The geography of the tour is determined by the weather. It starts in Hawaii in January and spends most of its first two months in California and Arizona during what is known as the "West Coast Swing," and then moves to the American Southeast for the "Southern Swing." Each swing culminates in a significant tour event. In April, tour events begin to drift north. The summer months are spent mainly in the Northeast and the Midwest, and in the fall (autumn) the tour heads south again.
No Tiger = no reason to watch golf. Except for betting purposes.

Nail on head.
