High gas prices taking a toll on NASCAR - attendance down 35,000 at MIS this past weekend

Unlike a lot of other sports it is not unusual for NASCAR fans to drive quite a long distance often pulling a trailer to get to
a race but it seems the tipping point on gas prices has been reached for a number of them and they are cutting back.
Attendance was down an estimated 35,000 at the MIS race this past weekend.

I suspect that MLB, NFL etc. will not be as affected since more of their fans attending games are local.

Ticket prices are a big problem in my opinion. I don't know what it's like around the rest of the country, but you can't get into Daytona for less than $60 a ticket and those seats are garbage (obstructed view). We used to have tickets to the Daytona 500 and Pepsi 400 every year but canceled them because the $40 seats my dad orignally had purchased back in the early 90's had become $125 seats by 2003. They're $150 seats for the 2009 Daytona 500 and $140 for the, now, Coke 400.
