Two curiodities

Here's a couple that I've been unable to ID. The first is not a coin, but rather a pendant of some sort. It has an international look to it, so I'm hoping that someone has seen something like it. It's about 26mm in diameter and appears to be made of brass. There is a legend, CONSTITUI TE PRINCIPEM (or something very close to it) on one side. It has a small lugs at 3:00 and 9:00 on the rim.

The second item is a hammered coin that appears to be silver (or possibly bullion). It's missing a piece, but has nice detail. The reverse has a castle or something similar (if I've oriented it correctly) on it. The piece is about 18mm in diameter. Anyone have an idea of the country or time period?

  • Well, the first is most certainly a Catholic pendant, (Mary, Queen of Heaven, with infant Jesus in her left arm). The reverse might be a representation the archangel Michael, but I can't tell whether those are waves, a giant serpent (representative of Satan), or perhaps some other equally symbolic image below him, and he has scales in his left hand, (possibly a representation of meeting out justice).

As to the coin, interesting, but I haven't a clue. I am certain there are several here who will be able to provide input though.

I believe the coin is a Great Britain George III coin - don't know the denomination tho.

The coin is a denaro (or perhaps a cornado) from Castile, as identified by the "castle" symbol and "CASTEL" readable to the right of the castle. I'm not certain of the king's identity, except that his name appears to start with "A" - maybe Alfonso XI (1312-1350). The style seems to fit that time period.

If the top one didn't have the loops attached, I'd have assumed it was a jeton. Mary is drawn that way on Austrian and Hungarian coins; that may be the part of the world the medal comes from.
