Here is a recently purchased 1813 IGS Saxony Thaler (German States) DAV-854 that I am pleased to share with you. image I happen to think that it is a very attractive well-struck coin with pleasing surfaces.

I am interested in what my fellow forum members think of it, especially (but not exclusively limited to) the world crown specialists.

  • I do not know diddly squat about coins outside of US coinage and I don't know about anyone else but... I'm impressed!

Looks like a very well preserved specimen and wreaks of CLASS.

I am jealous (in a good way)

    Congrats on your acquisition!

Thats a beauty Stuart. Nice overall eye appeal. What does the IGS stand for?

ANACS holder .....I am going to guess MS-62 due to minor contact marks.

WorldCoinGuy: According to Davenport, IGS stands for Johann G. Studer, the mintmaster in Dresden from 1813-1832.

WCG and KM: Thanks for your kind words about my new purchase! image

I am not a world crown specialist, I do however collect the coins of Germany and its states... That one makes me green with envy, it is by far much better than either of my Saxon Thalers (for that matter it is better than 99% of all my German Thalers) image (quantity over quality) So many coins, so little time image

A very nice pick up, I hope you enjoy it for many years to come but IF you decide to sell be sure to offer it here on the darkside forums first!

After having received this coin today I can confirm that it is in fact semi-PL. What a gorgeous world crown -- especially as an ANACS MS-61!!

The coin strike is absolutely hammered, and the luster is superb, with some contrast between frosty devices and slightly reflective semi-PL fields.

As promised, here are some new digital photographs that I took fo the coin this afternoon (in natural evening sunlight).

Please see the following new improved photos that I took this evening under cloudy skies (gray) evening light. I think that I finally did the coin the photographic justice that it deserves. image
