Scans for auctions, best practice?

When I scan a card for my registry sets, I usually crop off the edges of the slab, like with the 65 Topps Cepeda below. For my auctions, I usually re-scan the card to include the edges of the slab (like the 66 Topps Cepeda below), so the whole thing is visible.

I've contemplated not re-scanning cards and just using my registry pic as the auction pic for when I want to sell something out of my registry. Would you be hesitant to bid on something that didn't have the edges of the slab included in the picture? Would you think that the seller was trying to hide something?

I would scan showing the edges, but if I already had them scanned the other way I wouldn't redo them all. If you have good feedback I don't think it will be a problem for bidders unless it is a 52T Mantle or someting.

I would NEVER list a card without at least a 1/8" space around the edges.

MANY folks want to look for the snowman.

The practice also saves sellers from refunds in non-PayPal transactions.
Never give a crooked buyer an excuse to claim "the edges were hidden
and I didn't notice the scratches blahblahblah."

Describe stuff correctly and fully, and show a FULL and clear picture of the item.

really depends on your rep, feedback, cost of item and other similar transactions with happy customers
all that scanning is a pain in the butt

    obvious concern is gracked/altered holder
add a comment in about the reason you have scanned this way, link your regisrty set??? to show your serious level in the auction, a good assurance from you might go a long way, shoing more detail on card, not its holder.

so my answer is no i would not be hesitant, if i saw no red flags
ie: no paypal, or a return policy

    for what its worth

I would want to see the entire slab. I hate cropped edges on cards or slabs because I want to see what I am bidding on.

If your feedback is good I won't pay attention to it. Nice Cepeda's btw.

  • Not scanning the entire slab only opens up the preception that the seller is trying to hide something,
regardless on how good the feedback may or may not be.
Why open the can of worms? Or have bidders/buyers mailing you for a better scan of the entire slab?
How many auction bidders will you lose because you didn't give the complete picture?
May as well just do it right the first time and not have to worry about it later. IMHO
