Millennia Auction "NGC Graded" ??????

I must have missed something. I bought a couple Roman coins that just arrived. I was expecting them to be slabs (although I don't care much about slabs) because the items were described as "NGC Graded Uncirculated." How does one know what was in the catalog is from NGC?????

Who do you recommend for slabbing ancients? I care as much about getting my stuff imaged as I am terrible with that.

I'm not an expert on ancients so I'm not qualified to judge the slabbers. That said, I see no reason to slab ancients. It's not like the US coin market, where collectors most often don't have the cajones to buy raw coins of any consequence. Raw ancients sell perfectly well.

BTW, that probably means the photocerts are sitting on someone's desk in Beverly Hills. I'd suggest calling Goldberg again.

<< <i>Andy - What about for imaging? Then cracking them - about 80% of my Romans are raw. >>
here on our forums, you can't beat Mark Goodman, Bob Campbell or Bruce Lee for awesome quality photography work.

Actually, I would rather have this than a slab. Does any other grading group do this? I really am looking for imaging as much as grading.

i'll email you later with some contact info of photographers
I just got of the phone with a very nice guy at NGC (Scott Schechter) who explained that they don't normally do photocerts for ancients so they called somebody in specifically on those items in Millennia collection. Meybe in the future they will ....
I would be very happy with just photocerts on ancients. Does anybody do that?

Which leads me to the question, what do you desire from a catalog image? The Goldberg images show luster on lot #100 which just isn't there. I suspect very advanced image manipulation to make them look better than they are in the flesh. Is this normal?

I saw about 100 of the lots in person, and the pictures in the catalog were pretty close to being accurate to the real thing. Sometimes however, a coin can look better in person or in a picture, which can be attributed to lighting, etc. I think overall, they did a great job with the photography, although just like any other auction, there were probably some that looked better in hand than picture, or vice versa.
All of the imaging was done by me at the Goldbergs. I work for the Goldbergs always have. So NGC is 100% wrong in them telling you that they did the imaging for us. Its actually the other way around we did all the imaging for them. I love how its he said she said. As well I did the layout on the catalog not NGC. They graded the coins PERIOD THATS IT! Sorry if I seem a bit angry as I dont take kindly to people saying that they took the picture when in fact I did.
As far as images looking different from the photograde and our catalog. About 50% of the images of the ancients were re-shot after the photogrades given. I had a drive go out and had to reshoot a number of coins because of it. Hope this clears things up.
I would love to know the source that told you this information TwoKopeiki.
