I have a question about 1989 upper deck

I wanted to know say if I were to buy a wax box of the 89 upper deck which is the best series to get high or low series for the KEN GRIFFEY JR rookie thanks.

I'm so bad at statistics but this is my best calculation. Someone correct me if I'm going about this incorrectly.

700 cards in the low series
100 cards in the high series

I think there are 15 cards per pack x 36 packs so you get 540 cards per box which, I guess, would mean that you've got a 77% chance of pulling any given card in the low series.
Adding in the 100 extra high series cards I come up with a 67.5% chance of pulling any given card in the set of 1-800.
  • Low series has the best chance, BUT if you do hit it in the high series chances are the box may contain up to 10 in the box. I remember a high series box in 89 that I saw opened one pack produced 3 Griffeys. Out of about 10 boxes of high series I have seen opened only 2 had Griffeys and one had 10 and the other had 5. Nearly every box of low numbers I have seen opened have produced a Griffey and as many as 3.

I bought a box last summer out of boredom (low numbers).

    got 3 JR's.
  • low numbers. much better chance, plus you might luck out and get a wacky box with weird coalation image I've pulled as many as 3 in one box. of course you could get zero....

It's been a long time, but I believe there were many more high number cards in the high number packs. Maybe half of the cards were the high numbers and the other half were the low numbers. So, the chances to get a Griffey goes way down, not just a little.

Can anyone confirm the number of low/high # cards in the pack?

I do agree with Leiacards, it would be possible to get 10 of a single low # in the box. The collation was pretty bad.

  • i bought a box of high # from BBCE a few months ago. i got 0 griffeys and 0 randy johnsons.

i never sorted them so i don't know about the amount of high number cards present.

open 3-4 boxes of Hi # NO griffeys..never again!
  • The high numbers do mostly have the high series cards in them. The best bet is the low series.. It is fun though seeing one of those boxes that just keeps spitting the Griffeys out, but not really worth the gamble unless you can get a hi # cheap.
