It's fairly common in this situation to send an established MLB pitcher down to A ball just to get his mechanics and rythym back, and not interfere with taking pitching game time away from AAA pitching prospects trying to work their way up to the bigs.

I agree, I've seen it with rehab stints for injuries, so I guess it will be the same as they will be more interested in his mechanics.
