What do you think of the removal of the different 1976 Ike Types from the Basic Set?

I think of them as a major change in the coin's design and not as a variety. Doesn't every album and folder include both types? Wouldn't this be akin to having a Lincoln wheat cent set and including only one 1909, rather than both with VDB and without VDB?
Is there anyone out there who would actually consider their Ike set to be complete with only one 1976?

Oh, while I'm on the subject of the Ike registry, I think they should have a set that doens't include the silvers. Even though they were struck in the manner of a circulation strike, they clearly weren't ever meant to circulate. A silver never meant to circulate coin clearly doesn't fit in with a collection of clad circulation strike coins. Personally I may never buy the silver Ikes as I'd rather spend that money on more challanging clad coins, so I may never have a complete Ike registry set.

Sounds alot like my complaint about the SF coins in my, "Basic Circulation Strike Clad Roosie Set".
And even after making the variety sets, and admitting the SF coins are a variety they still refuse to put this set back like it was.

It's nuts that they took this out. This is the Ike that was made in 1975 and has been listed as a regular set coin in the Red Book ever since.

These two varieites have been a part of a regular Ike set since the 70's...now they are not???

Not only have both 1976 type I & II Ikes been part of the regular Ike Dollar set for thirty years plus, but they still are to everyone except PCGS. What is next for PCGS to do in srewing up the Registry, the removal of the 1913 Type 2 Buffalo nickels, Type 1 Standing Liberty Quarters or the 1917 obverse mint mark Walking Liberty half dollar?

What gives? Who is making these changes in the Registry? Make me wonder with some of the decissions being made, if anyone in the upper management of PCGS ever collected coins?

This is kinda weird but its PCGS's registry right? Plus, it's no weirder than having a required coin that hasn't even been graded by PCGS in the Varieties set either. Same holds true for the Proof Varieties.

I once thought that the registry participant's had a say in it but evidently I was wrong and I need to start keeping my mouth shut!

I agree 100% Both 1976 TY 1 & TY 2 coins belong in any and all Eisenhower Dollar Sets.

" I think of them as a major change in the coin's design and not as a variety."

I view them as varieties due to the minor change in lettering and no change in design.

"Doesn't every album and folder include both types?"

    No.

"Wouldn't this be akin to having a Lincoln wheat cent set and including only one 1909, rather than both with VDB and without VDB?"

No, the "V.D.B" is a design change and is readily apparent to even the casual observer (unlike T1 and T2 Ikes).

"Is there anyone out there who would actually consider their Ike set to be complete with only one 1976?"

Only one would be a problem, but there are still three.

This is why I pulled my Basic Circulation Strike Kennedy set --- they have lost touch with the collector. Someday I hope they regain there sanity there.

Hold onto this comment 19lyds, because HRH D.H. once said that the registry belongs to the collectors and PCGS will "Do what ever the collectors want as far as sets"

The one thing that always bothered me and I don't even collect Lincolns, was that PCGS didn't even recognize the (7) 1982 Cent varieties. Now they do.

I would have to agree with a few statements on this board. PCGS has started to loose touch and I just don't see where this is going. They also have done a marvelous job with the new improvments to the registry and F.S. #'s and such.

I'm happy with all of the dime sets, although I have no idea why they included the 1964 SMS with the BS coins and not the Proofs, with the other 3 SMS dimes. Very puzzling too me.
