McKay was a long-time fan and supporter of horse racing. Ironic he dies the night before Big Brown might win the Triple Crown.

Will always be remembered for his 1972 Olympic broadcast and for "the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat".

    Good night, Jim!

I have found memories of McKay. It brings back memories of watching games with my late father when I was a kid. Rest in peace McKay!
  • What a treat it was to grow up listening to McKay do sports!

Before the days of ESPN, Jim McKay was the main sports caster outside of NFL, MLB and NBA. He was the voice of ABC Sports and during those down days between one of the big 3, McKay was what you got on ABC. He was very unassuming, he was classic, he was the best. Todays sports casters try too hard to make an impression because there is so much competition in that arena that they basically have to do anything to stand out. McKay would do anything NOT to stand out. He let the sport and the athletes tell the story, he was simply the narrator.

These words will forever be burned into my brain..
    "They're all gone!"
