Please view these pictures of my 1940 proof set and let me know if you
think these coins are worthwhile to send in for grading. Also, on the penny,
what color would it be? Sorry the pics are not very good.

The cent is Red.
Sending them in for grading is up to you. I would send them IMO.

<< <i>Honestly I would leave it as is, they are nice coins, but being an original set in an original holder is cooler than any numerical grade IMO.

I agree, it would be a pity to break up that set. Awesome looking coins.

Seriously, those are some very clean coins that you should definitely send it!
The cent is 100% red. Sending them in is your preference.
the best thing might be to just get a nice Capital Plastic holder.
That penny is red.
Leave this set as is....is my opinion.
: Note the rusted staple.
<< <i>The cent is RD and the dime might qualify for FB.
I don't think proof mercs are eligible for the FB designation.
Looks like a RED cent to me from those pics.
I would leave it as is 'cuz the coolness factor of an original set is off the charts.
Or, put 'em in a multi-holder so they can be together, if you just have to have them graded and entombed.
Since they haven't turned in their plastic in 68 years (ex. the Nickel), I don't think they would start turning now unless you move them into an unstable environment.
wes
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
i certainly don't mean to be critical of the OP's Set, but the notion that this "set" has been together since it came from the Mint is a bit of a stretch. believe what you want to believe, but the set as pictured has been re-packaged and there's every likelihood that it was pieced together and not original at all.
certainly that doesn't detract from it's beaty and collectibility, but some of our members need to cease with their fairy-tales!!

Always the slammer huh?

Might get some pleasant surprises
From a financial perspective, you should have them certified. But only if that is your ultimate concern.

I'm with Keets on this one.

If that's the case, then i can tell you the coins are not worth grading.
Anyone who woud repackge a set, does not repack outstanding coins.
In any case it looks like an above avg set in aftermarket plastic.
