    That Perez is a blazer.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • Holy sliced cardboard batman!!!
Any team on any given Sunday, can beat any other team...unless they were playing the Miami Dolphins in 1972.
  • You come up with some nice raw cards. What part of the country are you located in?

The Perez was in a lot of 65's that I picked up at the local show in Dallas. I bought 30 or 40 that were this nice. I paid $100 for it and am sending it in.

See Ron you actually pay good money for raw cards, at the shows I have been to locally no one would of offered over 50 bucks for that card.

I really like the Perez card, nice pickup and good luck on a slab!!! What a great player in his area!! Even though I'm a Dodger fan, he was won of my favorites growing up.

True, true. I am more than willing to pay good money for superb raw stuff. I fall off the bandwagon though when the pricing gets ridiculous. Usually, I'll pay 7, 7.5ish prices for stuff that looks NM/MT or better. On the others in this thread I paid anywhere from 75%-100% of Beckett.

In this case it was easier to pay this price because Perez is one of my favorites. But I probably would've bought it anyway. image

RONBURGUNDY seems to be the only person on the face of the earth who can still get nice raw cards at shows....

    HOW DOES HE DO IT?

Ron does pick up some sweet raw cards doesn't he?? Great pick ups Ron, but I do have a question: what the hell is Ray Blades doing in the "action" shot of himself? Is he playing a flute? Cleaning out the rain gutters? Stabbing himself with a pitchfork?

    Any ideas?

  • I picked up some nice raw 1955 Bowman FB and 1956 Topps FB commons for about $5 each at the WSCCA show last weekend...just can't be bothered to scan them and upload them to Photobucket.

There are plenty of decent raw cards out there that would grade in the 6-8 range, especially commons that only set-builders want. Most people, however, can't be bothered to look for them. I looked through several hundred cards (took a good 2 hours) and found only 20-25 cards that I deemed good enough for my sets.

You also can have some luck buying mixed-condition group lots on Ebay. I recently bought a lot of 60 1956 Topps FB cards for about $3 a card. Many of the cards were beaters, but I also found several cards that would probably be 8's were I to get them graded. Overall, about a half the cards were EX-MT or better, which has helped my set along nicely.

It's really just a matter of doing the legwork.

  • Nice cards!

Just picked up 14 Near Mint 1956 Topps FB commons on Ebay for just under $100, or about $7 a card.

Good stuff is out there if you take the time to look!
