Todays MLB Draft

Just wondering how everyone feels about their teams first round picks.

As a Dodger fan I'm kinda wondering about their first rounder, Ethan Martin from a Georgia HS. He was expected to go higher but didn't.
From what I read, he could be a third baseman with above average bat, and he is a pitcher. I guess I was hoping for someone out of college like Ike Davis out of ASU or one of the others who fell below the 15th pick.

I've already given my opinion for my picks in the other thread.

I'll be interested to see what most of these combo (rhp/3b) type guys decide to do in the pros. I know Joe Savery decided to pitch, even though he could KILL the ball while he was at Rice and he isn't looking too good in High-A Clearwater right now.

I also found it interesting that guys like Shooter Hunt (#31) and Christian Friedrich (#25) fell as low as they did and some guys such as Eric Hosmer (#3) went so high.

To Red Sox fans: GREAT pick with Kelly at #30. I saw him get 2 ABs in a tournament during this past season and the kid was very impressive as far as I saw. He already has a major leaguers body type at the age of 18.

I love seeing Florida kids DOMINATE the draft. (just because they don't go to college in FL doesn't mean they aren't FL boys)

We picked up a catcher at #1, even though we have Towles now and House in AAA.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
  • The Rangers got a heck of a 1B with Justin Smoak. Dude can flat smoke the ball. Get it? Smoak the ball? haaaaha
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.

Maybe that comes down to some teams always wanting to get what they feel as the best player for that pick and sometimes a team will get the best player for a position. I guess it depends on the scouting reports in regards to how even the players are in their abilities.
  • They have a MLB draft?
