Smoltz to have season-ending shoulder surgery

I'm not a Braves fan, but that's a bummer. I was hoping to see Smoltz add some more saves to his career. I hope the surgery adds some more years to his career.

I wonder if he'll be any closer to retirement? I personally don't want him to go but that would actually be kinda cool if he retired along side Glavine and Maddux, who are both likely to retire this year.

Can you imagine those 3 going into Cooperstown together? What a day that would be...

However, the reports I have read state Smoltz does not want to retire. Also, Maddux isn't showing signs of slowing down. I believe if Maddux continues to pitch as he is and can find himself on a team that will give him solid run support he has a shot at 400 wins. Think about it, after this season that's only 3 pretty good seasons (or two awesome seasons). Could happen.
  • Maddux is well beyond the point where he can have an awesome season. he will be lucky to win 10 games for the anemic Padres.

glavine should have already hung it up.

I do hope Smoltz comes back as he had the potential to have a good season.

I hope this isnt the end, I would love to see him go out on his own terms.
