A couple of buying questions.

I haven't bought any coins in a couple of years, but always wanted to add some silver britannanias(sp?) to my collection, as well as a nice gothic florin among other coins. The only thing is: I hadn't realized silver quadrupled since the last time I bought any silver coins.

Now since silver is 4 times the price it was since I last purchased, and looking at historical charts for silver, it seems to me that it will come back down. Maybe not to $5 an ounce, but less then $10 - per my interpretation of historical charts. With that in mind, I'm thinking of not buying anything for quite some time.

Is this a good idea? Are you folks adding silver coins to your collections as usual?

Also, I've noticed a few threads that are hinting to world coins becoming more popular, or finally seeing their day. Are world coin prices going up as well?

I'm just trying to decide if now is a good time to get back into the hobby or not.

Thanks!

If they are for a collection, I would buy them. I personally don't think silver will go below $12/oz again, but then again, I thought the Bills would win a Super Bowl.

The price of silver should have no effect on the price of a nice gothic florin unless silver goes to $400.00/oz. Other collectible coins should be similarly unaffected.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I never used Kitco for the reading. I'll have to try that!

I won't be buying a nice gothic florin right off the bat. The first one I buy will be somewhere around f-vf. While I don't view collecting as an investment, I do consider the "liquidation value" of anything I pick up, and that has kept me rather cheap. The most I think I have spent was $50 each on 4 Proof 1997 Thailand 100 Baht Tiger coins a few years ago, that are now worth only $30 a piece... So ya, I stay really cheap. I tend to buy coins I like and subsequently get burned.

JZrarities - If it's my icon your refering to, I would have to look through my archives. I made that several years ago. But if I find it, I'd glady trade it for a large copy of your icon. image Yours is the best! Did you capture that expression?

The picture seems to be of high enough definition to enlarge quite a bit.

To do so on your own computer right click on it, and click "Copy image".

Then open Excell and click on "Paste"

The resulting picture will have small white squares at strategic locations. Right click on the one at the bottom right and drag it until the picture is the size you want, but not large enough to start pixelating.

You can save it as an Excell file, or print it out and then scan the printout and create your own .jpg file.
