Jay Bruce Sports Alert!!!

otwcardsotwcards Posts: 5,291 ✭✭✭
Jay Bruce just grounded out to second in his first at bat. He's now 0-1 in the game and a paltry 11-20 in his career. Batting average has plunged down to .550. Dump his cards before he dips below .500!!!

This Sports Alert has been provided by the Jay Bruce C.A.S.H. (Card Are Seriously Hyped) Society...

BTW, I don't own a single Jay Bruce card (or Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes, David Wright, Johan Santana, Max Sherzer, Tim Lincecum, or Brandon Webb).

He did end up going 2/3 with another HR! Still above .500 for awhile!

I have always believed that card prices are based at first on hype and that can drive sales BIG TIME. The time to dump is before a
guy hits the majors and looks like a rookie. 99% of the time I'm right, Bruce's cards were hyped at the beginning of the season, but
he has TORN UP the majors so far. I was big time wrong on this guy.

Right, but there is always that chance of him hitting a wall and ending up hitting .180 and being sent back down.

Chris Shelton? comes to mind when he was hitting EVERYTHING out of the park and look what happened to him- obviously there wasnt as much hype with him but the fact remains the same that the jury will remain out on him - lets give him a a couple of weeks before we say he has lived up to anything.

you are right, Shelton fell off the radar, but Bruce looks like the real thing, then again has there ever been a player that was hot every year?
Even Griffey and Jeter have had their falls.

I would say Albert Pujols may be the only player that qualifies. Considering last season was the "worst" in his career even though he hit .327, had 32 HR's, 103 RBI, and 71 extra base hits. That during a season when he was playing with some nagging injuries. But then again, since he came into the league, he's AVERAGED .333, 40 HR's, 122 RBI, and 84 extra base hits per season. And he's still only 28 . . . SCARY!!!

The down side for Bruce today was that he got caught stealing...

I took a flyer on Bruce in my fantasy league right when they called him....I wish I could say I did it because I knew the kid would be good...fact is, my offense was so anemic, I figured he couldn't make it any worse....glad I took the chance.

I wish the Reds were on TV somewhere, I'd like to see what all the hype was about.

Well I went into my draft planning on taking either Longoria or Bruce- it was a toss up IMO, unfortunately it might have been the wrong decision on my part taking Longoria image
