Issue resolved. Nothing to see here...move along...
This dead horse has been beat enough. The seller has done enough to make me comfortable.
Thanks all for your imput.

Anyone familiar with this Ebay Seller?
I just purchased a coin based on the photo (clearly shows that the coin was in an ANACS slab. I asked after the auction about the coin, and inquired as to the grade on the slab. I stated that it was clearly an ANACS old style white slab in the picture. This was their response:
"We actually use the different size white pieces for photos. We have one for all denominations. It works good and keep employees finger prints off the coins!"
I sent two follow-ups thru ebay messages and a third email to their email address. No response.
I sniped the coin at the last minute (saw it with less than 2 minutes to go) because I recognized it to be a Hit List 40 VAM from the photos and at the price, I did not want to miss it. Probably should have let this one go, but I got greedy and stupid. Since purchasing, I scanned their feedback and there were a couple "not the coin pictured" feedbacks.
This may turn out to be my 3rd neg given in over 620 ebay transactions as a buyer and seller.

Unless the coin you receive turns out to not be the one pictured, then you should not leave a neg.

There is no mention that this is a stock photo. The coin is listed as gem bu. I am angry in that they are not responsive. I asked a direct question; is the coin pictured the one I will receive. They did not answer that question.
I don't take feedback lightly. I've had over 600 transactions on ebay as a buyer and seller. I never hold feedback hostage to see what the other party says about me when I'm the seller. I leave feedback when I receive payment and when I receive the item I bought. I've only given out 2 negs. One for an undelivered item where the seller never responded to emails and the other when the seller substituted a cull 1899O for a AU+1878CC that was listed in the auction as an 1878CC in BU. It was part of a lot of 40+ coins. The seller in that case never responded when I emailed and telephoned him.
The only way I will leave a neg is if the coin is not the one pictured. But if you look at the pic of the reverse, its clearly in an ANACS slab.
Sorry about your situation, hope you get it worked out.
Yes, it certainly appears to be an ANACS Slab but I can;t recall if that logo was on the slab or the insert so I'm no help there.
However, the photo'ed coin has enough personality to be able to accurately identify it.
If he sends you a better coin than whats pictured that is the same VAM, what will you do?
The name is LEE!
There's enough chatter in the fields to id it as well. In re the Neg, the only way I would neg is if they resisted on the return. I've had sellers send non-conforming items in the past and work out a solution, and I've left positive feedback. Hell, I've never even left a neutral to my best recollection.
Darn thief!

I loved the comment that its something they use to keep fingerprints off the coin. Please. There's adhesive residue on the plastic on the front of the coin slab...
I knew I should have just passed it up, but I got stupid. Now I'm probably going to have to deal with a problem... at least its only $38 and not $380!

Yeah, but it looks like its also MISSING THE S! If that is the case, then way to go!
The coin they were shipping was not the coin in the photo. The person who I talked to was not the person who was responsible for the auction, but instead for the shipping. I told her that if it was not the coin in the photo, I wasn't interested. Basically, they used a stock photo and cropped it to eliminate most of the slab. They did not however state that the coin in the photo was not the coin that was being auctioned. The guy who I have to deal with on this wasn't there so I have to wait for him to get back to me. I'll post the results of that conversation later. Guess the word to the wise is confirm that they aren't using stock photos before you bid on items.
edit: for the record, the woman I spoke with was very nice, very professional and very courteous. Hopefully this gets resolved without any issues.
<< <i>Its been a few hours since my last attempt to contact them. First attempt was pretty damned quick. Either they are scrambling trying to find the coin they used for the stock photo or they are ignoring me (or they haven't checked their messages for a while

The coin is not represented as being in an ANACS holder. OTOH, if they used a stock photo then they should honor your return by full refund of the purchase price plus insurance.
I generally give sellers a day or two to respond - I know how busy it can get with many auctions closing simultaneously.
Check out my current listings: https://ebay.com/sch/khunt/m.html?_ipg=200&_sop=12&_rdc=1
The ANACS slab basically made it possible to verify that the coin pictured was not the coin in the auction. I've requested a refund. If they give one prior to shipping the coin, then I'd probably leave + feedback because they acted professionally.
I believe this is the auction?
I purchased some "old" anacs size slabs, with the white inside, just for the purpose of storage some of the coins I didn't want in 2x2s, or "bare", and weren't worth grading fees.
I bought them in all denominations.
The insides are more "foamy" and they aren't perfect, but if I took a photo and put on ebay, with the quality that auction has, one might think they are looking at an official anacs slab as well.
I would also think that if there was a grade on the slab (ie....real slab from anacs) that it would have been mentioned in the auction. Better selling point and likely more money realized.
That said, I also have the smudges, but it does appear that the reverse photo has the Anacs logo and it is likely what you stated.....a "not the coin pictured" type of thing.
Good luck iwth it. Just wanted people to be aware there are slabs that self-slabbers use that are very close to the smaller anacs ones and they are easy to get (some of us use them for storage as I mentioned)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I was thinking the same thing but thought I might need to clean my glasses. It looks a lot like 6B to me.
You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
description of the coin. I do believe that ebay requires the seller to describe the coin. But, alas,
it's ebay and a power seller. I cannot see that it is "clearly in an Anacs slab". A slab of some
sort but the old slide top slabs look the same.
Hmmmm, hope you get the coin pictured and are happy.

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
I'll give them a chance. We'll see what comes in the mail. Its only $36, so risk is limited. I will post the pic from the auction, along with what I receive and you can decide for yourselves whether its the same coin or not.
That being said, they were cordial, polite and professional. No nonsense. No snippiness. And, they promise to make it right if I'm not happy. I bought the coin based on the photo. I did not assume it was slabbed when I bid. I only made that assumption later after the auction closed, so it was not a factor in my purchase; therefor, the fact that the coin is raw vs slabbed is immaterial and is not a factor here.

This is not about the seller in question, but do you really think EVERY power seller is a scumbag? Russ, many others here and myself are all Power Sellers, do we also fit into your "If they are a Power Seller, they MUST be a power screwer"?
I'm really sick of board members saying that if someone is a Power Seller they are screwing everyone who buys from them!

It's only $38 and you're trying to cherrypick a vam. you should recognize you might end up with a coin worth melt and if you do, that's part of the game. That's how I enter into such a cherrypicking purchase---weigh success vs failure, calculate the odds and cost yields go or no go. --Jerry

I agree completely. I have no issue with assuming the risk when the coin I am to receive is the coin pictured, on which I made my choice to gamble. I've cherried a number of great coins for junk prices and I've bought some real dogs too. Its all part of the game. I don't like it when you bid on a pictured coin (especially where they say the coin pictured is the one you'll receive) and they send you a different coin. If its a stock photo, I don't bid. Period. I just want sellers to be up front about that.
In re Mad Marty's post about the term "Power Screwer", when I first posted this thread, I used the prejorative "power screwer" because that's how a large number of poster refer to power sellers on the forum. I used the common vernacular and should not have. I have since edited my post to remove that reference as it was unfair, both to this particular seller and to all other sellers. Sure, there are some "power screwers" that are rip-off artists, but just as most ebay buyers are schmucks who blackmail you with feedback, most power sellers are decent, honest merchants. I will refrain in the future from similar comments unless they are deserved.
<< <i>No neg, just hope you can return the coin. NEVER do the last 3 min thing. Haste makes waste. Don't ask me how I know. >>
I seldom jump on a coin that I see for the first time in the last couple of minutes. There are certain dates and mints that I know what to look for and I scan those listings as far in advance as possible and put them on my watch list to come back later and try to pick. Usually, the clear-cut VAMs are noticed by the usual suspects and are priced higher than I was willing to pay. I've gotten pretty lucky with a number of picks for prices that I could afford to have the coin be a flop. I'd just trun around and resell it or trade it in at my B&M store (the guy will let me trade even up for coins in his "melt" bucket). I can't tell you how many great VAMs (including discovery coins) I've pulled from junk buckets.
As far as I'm concerned re this transaction, this seller would get a positive whether I kept the coin or returned it. They've been pretty good about this.

<< <i>I have been assured that the coin in the auction is the coin I will receive. It is not slabbed. The seller states that they used an insert from an old ANACS slab to hold the coin, that the stylized A is on the insert, not on the plastic. I'm not sure about that as I never cracked an old ANACS holder to know. I assumed that the insert was just a foam or semi-hard plastic and the A was stamped into the clear cover. >>
Just FYI that I pulled out an old ANACS insert from a 7070 crackout I did a few years ago. No "A" logo on the insert. This was for a shield nickel......

I figured for $38 I'd take my chances.
