Old Coin ID

Can anyone help to identify this old coin. It is Bronze or Copper, slighty oval in shape and about the size of a U.S. Cent. Obverse has a face with long hair, and a large F below the chin. Reverse writing around top edge says IGNO.VIN.IN ( I think). Coin is dark (see scans)so hard to read.

  • Hi Gramps,

It might be best for you to host your photos/scans through Photobucket.

This way you can have the actual photo/scan in your post making it easier to read.

    Looks like Naples
  • i agree....Naples, if not, some other italian city state. Date looks like 1577? 1677? i would think more likely 1577
  • obv: CAROLVS II D G REX
    rev: IN HOC SIGNO VIN

Only reference I could find was here, identified as a 3 Cavalli.
