Dealers with tables at ANA Baltimore - - did you read your 46-page "Exhibitor Service Manual" sent out yesterday? I can't describe what's in there because "any unauthorized disclosure is prohibited". (Sort of like the announcement made at every baseball game, so that if you attend a game and the pitcher throws a no-hitter, you can't tell anyone about it.) But I will say that in my opinion, 46 pages on how the show is supposed to operate is a bit excessive.

Wow......I saw it come, but haven't looked at it yet. I thought 46 pages seemed long.

46 pages?!? I sure hope there are lots of big pictures and big letters! Who has the time to read fine print boilerplate?

  • 46 pages of "service" for the "Exhibitor" would indicate a lot of service. Any cookies? I would think that costs could be reduced to the Dealers if the manual is shortened to a 10 page black and white comic book format and this may also spark interest in reading it. A half page Flyer would suffice: ATTN. ALL DEALERS-PLEASE PROVIDE SUPERIOR SERVICE, NUMISMATIC KNOWLEDGE, REASONABLE PRICES, COURTESY, INTEREST IN YNs AND THEIR QUESTIONS, CLEANLINESS AND DON'T TALK WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL. THESE SUGGESTIONS WILL SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE ATTENDENCE AND PROVIDE AN ENJOYABLE SHOW. THANK YOU, THE MANAGEMENT. PS-DON'T FORGET TO PROVIDE COOKIES! (Respectfully submitted for consideration, John Curlis)

Great! Can you summarize it in less than 200 words, for those of us who make a habit of not reading legalese?

    Maryland Sales Tax

As with all conventions in Maryland, Whitman Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention is required by law to provide the Comptroller of Maryland the names and addresses of all dealers who are show exhibitors. Each exhibitor is responsible for the collection, reporting, and payment of taxable sales made during the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention. In Maryland, there is no sales tax on transactions of coins and bullion over $1,000. Sales under $1,000 are subject to sales tax.

The Maryland Department of Revenue sends out temporary sales tax forms to all exhibitors that do not have a Maryland sales tax number. If you are unable to attend or are a wholesale only exhibitor, you are still required to sign and return the form. If you fail to return the form, the Comptroller of Maryland will not issue you a future temporary sales tax number and you will not be able to do business in Maryland. Any exhibitor who does not comply with the laws of the State of Maryland will not be allowed to exhibit at the show.

If you have not received your temporary sales and use tax license for the June 2008 show, you may be delinquent in paying past shows’ sales taxes. A representative from the Comptroller of Maryland office will be attending the show to collect delinquent sales taxes before issuing these companies licenses. At the show, you must be prepared to pay any delinquent sales taxes or provide proof of paid sales taxes for any past show in question. When all tax matters are resolved you will be allowed to setup and sell at the show.

If you have any questions regarding your compliance with the collection, reporting, and payment of taxable sales or believe you are delinquent in your sales tax payments from any past shows, please contact:
